Department of Criminal Law and Procedure
The department of Criminal Law and the Process is a structural subdivision by Faculty of Law, State Higher Educational Institution “Uzhhorod National University”.
The department of Criminal Law and the Process was founded on the 1 of January, 2017 by merging two departments: Department of Criminal Law and Criminal Legal Disciplines and the Department of International Criminal Law Faculty of Law by State Higher Educational Institution “Uzhhorod National University”.
The department has been created with an aim to organize and prepare qualified specialists in the field of criminal-legal disciplines and international criminal law who are able to use achieved theoretical and practical knowledge in further professional practice.
The department of Criminal Law and the Process is graduating, it’s activity has been regulated by Provision of graduating department of Law Faculty, State Higher Educational Institution Uzhhorod National University”, developed and approved in the prescribed order. Lecturers provide 37 academic disciplines, pedagogical and assistants’ practice, coursework, degree thesis and master thesis.
Taking to account the department’s role and place in preparation of law students the main affords were directed towards: effective human resource organization; improvement of methods and quality of teaching; scientific research.
The main tasks of the department are the following: to implement educational activity directed upon preparation of specialists of qualification levels relevant to high education standards; to organize creative personality and professionalism in scientific research. Departments work is directed to improvement of educative process and preparation of qualified human resources.
The Department carries out scientific guidance and preparation of candidate’s degree on a specialty 12.00.08 “ Criminal law and criminology, criminal legislative law”. The issues of candidate’s degree has been chosen according to requirements of legislative and practical activity, adjusted according to research relevance and recency and the amount of postgraduates is increasing.
The lecturers of the department passed internship at universities of the USA, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, Kyiv National University named after T.H. Shevchenko, at the Ukrainian Legislative School of the Legislative Institute by Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, at Kharkiv and Odessa National Law academies.
The leaders of the court and law enforcement bodies were involved in the educational process, in particular former head of the Transcarpathian Appeal Court and former judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Stryzhak A.A., former prosecutors of Transcarpathia Lemak V.Y., Bondarenko O.Y.
The main efforts of the Department are focused on providing educational process according to requirements of Bologna process and improvement of scientific research.The results have been tested at scientific and practical conferences, which are held annually, including foreign as though and the materials have been published. Thus for the recent years more than 100 scientific articles have been published, more than 80 educational manuals, methodological recommendations , tests, task digests corresponding requires of ECTS.
The Department supports international relations, takes part in the work of international and Ukrainian scientific conferences, publishes it’s scientific achievements in foreign scientific editions. The department keeps in touch with other departments of Law institutions of Ukraine, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Moldova.
Scientific student group of an extensive studying of basic discipline “Criminal law of Ukraine” successfully acts at the department, students take part in scientific conferences with their reports and summaries. Students go in for martial art “Aikido” led by senior lecturer Lemak O.V.
Relevant issues concerning educational process organization are being discussed at the meetings of the department, which are held monthly. The curriculum provides preparation and defense of reports (for masters), test papers (for 1 year students) for the extensive studying of basic and professionally oriented subjects.
The department performs master’s and diploma theses topics on relevant issues ordered by the heads of judicial and law enforcement agencies. As a rule, an external review of the research has been conducted.
Pursuant to the approved complex topic the teachers work upon investigation of the issue and improvement of legal criminal enforcement and protection of human rights and freedoms in Ukraine.
