About us. History and the present.

We are 25.  Our slogan is "Docendo discumus - We learn by teaching". The history of the Department of International Economic Relations (DIER) is connected with the establishment and development of the Faculty of International (International Economic) Relations. On October 5, 1998, the Department of International Law and International Economic Relations (DIL and IER) was established as part of the Branch of the Institute of International Relations of T.G. Shevchenko Kyiv National University at Uzhhorod State University to train specialists in International Economic Relations. It was headed by Candidate of Legal Sciences, Associate Professor Ivan Vainahii, the initiator of the creation of the Branch and later the Faculty.

During further transformation of the Branch into the Faculty of International Relations of Uzhhorod National University, the Department of IL and IER was transformed into the Department of International Economic Relations, headed by Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Mykhailo Lendel. At the same time, the Department of International Organizations and Foreign Policy was created and headed by Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Mykola Matyovka. Later, the Department of European Integration and Economics was formed on its basis and headed by Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor Viktor Shynkar. In 2013, the Department of European Integration and Economics became part of the Faculty's unified graduation department − the Department of International Economic Relations (DIER), which is currently headed by Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Volodymyr Prykhodko.

The Department of International Economic Relations of the Faculty of International Economic Relations graduates students and awards qualifications of the educational-proficiency levels of Bachelor and Master in the specialty "International Economic Relations". Training is conducted under such educational programs as International Economic Relations, International Business, and Digital Technologies in International Business. Postgraduate studies include training and research activity program of the third level of higher education, Doctor of Philosophy, as well as preparation and defence of dissertations in specialty 292 IER.  The teaching process is implemented by a highly professional staff. In addition, both Ukrainian and foreign professors, highly qualified practitioners, representatives of the real sector of the economy, and participants in foreign economic relations are invited to conduct special courses and part-time classes.

The research interests of the Department’s scholars cover a wide range of problems of macroeconomics, world economic relations and their economic and mathematical modelling, international economic security, economic globalization, European transit, foreign economic activity and cross-border economy of Ukraine and the European Union, and management of international companies and international projects. Many researchers of the Department are members of the Ukrainian Association of International Economists, an authoritative professional association.

   

Current professional level of the staff is supported by international internships in the USA, the UK, Germany, Italy, Norway, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and other countries whose international economic activity is the subject of the study.

Teaching of normative courses is provided with curricula, methodological recommendations, packages of test questions and tasks, as well as e-learning materials (https://e-learn.uzhnu.edu.ua). Students are also involved in research work (https://www.uzhnu.edu.ua/uk/infocentre/69613).  

The Faculty of International Economic Relations conducts student internships on the bases of specialized committees of the Parliament, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine and the State Migration Service of Ukraine, foreign diplomatic missions of Ukraine, Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, local state authorities and local self-government bodies of the relevant profile, as well as enterprises of transnational corporations that work in Ukraine and abroad.

The staff of the Department conducts various activities such as quests, round tables, business games, trainings and development of group projects, meetings with representatives of diplomatic missions and enterprises - participants of foreign economic activity, which contributes to innovative orientation and creativity of the educational process, as well as extra-curricular communication of students and applicants.
