Department of Urban Buildings Construction and Maintenance

The scientific issue researched at the Department of Urban Construction and Management is "Principles and methods of forming pedestrian spaces in the cities of Zakarpattia." Lecturers of the department actively participate in international and All-Ukrainian conferences, publish articles in specialized Ukrainian and foreign journals.

The goal of the research is to develop principles and methods for improving the spatial planning structure of a city and the formation of urban pedestrian spaces, taking into account transport, traditions, and the habits of the local population.

Source data: statistical management data, the regulatory and legal framework of the industry, transport surveys, scientific research, and developments from previous periods presented in articles and conference reports.

In accordance with the set goal, the following research tasks have been identified:

  • Perform an analysis of the city's spatial planning structure;
  • Perform an analysis of the structure and formation of the transport network;
  • Propose a conceptual scheme for an information transport model of the city's spatial planning structure;
  • Provide an assessment of the optimization of the existing spatial planning structure of the city;
  • Determine the role and significance of urban pedestrian spaces;
  • Propose methodological recommendations for improving the spatial planning structure of Zakarpattia cities.

The following results were obtained in the scientific work:

  • An analysis of the design and development of residential settlements conducted by the department showed that the rational use of territorial resources can be achieved through the modification and implementation of new planning and development techniques. An important factor determining the complexity of land development in the Zakarpattia region is a complex geodynamic situation, which requires significant expenditures on engineering preparation during land development.
  • A model of the open functional-planning structure of the lowland settlement system was built, and the foundations for building a mathematical model of the functional-planning structure of the mountain settlement system were developed.
  • Based on research conducted on the stress-strain state of slopes, bank fortifications, dams, bridge supports, and deep layers of the Earth's crust, a model for generating electromagnetic radiation during deformation processes in the geological environment (which serves as the foundation for buildings and structures) was developed. Electromagnetic disturbances are well described within the framework of an electrokinetic model. The results of experimental research agree with the theoretical model. Electrokinetic processes are of great importance in the study of destruction processes not only in the foundations of buildings and structures but also in other building structures, particularly concrete and reinforced concrete.
  • A seismic zoning scheme for the territory of the Zakarpattia region was developed, taking into account the correlation of geomorphological, geological, and tectonic factors. A computer calculation of building frames, classified as experimental, was performed for seismic loads using earthquake accelerograms.

Students are involved in scientific work. A student scientific society and a student design bureau operate at the department. A series of scientific student works is presented at the student conference every year.
