The laboratory was established by the renowned European scientist, Dr. Sc., Prof. Komyndar V.I., who founded the population biology school at Uzhhorod State University. He was an indefatigable environmentalist, advocating for the preservation of the largest primeval ecosystems in Transcarpathia, which are now recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Additionally, he initiated the organization of various nature conservation projects in the Ukrainian Carpathians.
