UzhNU signed a Memorandum with partners from South Korea
Back on November 18, 2024, a trilateral Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation was signed online between Uzhhorod National University, signed by the Rector, Professor Volodymyr Smolanka, and partners from the Republic of Korea - Good Friends International (Chairman of the Board Dr. John Jung-hyun Oh) and Handong Global University (Dr. Dosoung Choi). On November 23, the Korean delegation arrived in Zakarpattia, where a solemn ceremony of signing the document took place at UzhNU. It is worth noting that the joint work with such reputable partners will be an important step towards raising the academic level and strengthening the position at the international level.
This agreement is the result of the work of the Global International Platform for the Restoration of Ukraine “Interaction” and the authorized representative of the Coordination Platform Council Mykhailo Laba in the field of humanitarian activities, which also includes the creation of a safe educational environment and ensuring the principle of continuity of the educational process despite the challenges of the military situation. The platform unites more than 150 organizations and institutions both in Ukraine and abroad and continues to implement initiatives aimed at comprehensive support of our country, strengthening international peace and improving security.
The Memorandum provides for the following main areas of cooperation:
Exchange of students and/or interns;
Exchange of teachers and/or staff;
Joint research and publications;
Participation in seminars and academic meetings;
Exchange of academic materials and other information;
Other joint activities agreed upon by the Parties.
Handong Global University, headed by Dr. Dosoung Choi, is one of the most prestigious universities in South Korea. Its slogan “See globally, teach globally” is harmoniously combined with “More we know - more we can do” - the motto of UzhNU, which is ranked among the leading higher education institutions of Ukraine and continues its development even in the face of Russia's armed aggression.
During the visit of the Korean delegation, the Rector of UzhNU, Professor Volodymyr Smolanka, gave the partners a tour of the university's academic buildings. In particular, the guests visited the School of Medicine, where they got acquainted with the educational research and production pharmacy and the simulation laboratory for medical training, which is equipped with simulators, dummies, phantoms, computer systems and medical equipment, including the Anatomage 3D multimedia anatomical table.
The Memorandum opens up new opportunities for students, scientists of UzhNU and Korean partners, promotes international cooperation and exchange of experience in various fields of science and education. In addition, its implementation will help create a platform for effectively addressing the humanitarian challenges facing Ukraine in this difficult time. According to Volodymyr Smolanka, Rector of Uzhhorod National University, South Korea has gone through a difficult historical path, which was marked by war and upheaval, but it, like the Phoenix, was able to revive and make an innovative breakthrough. And today it has advanced developments and unique experience. With the help of the Memorandum of Understanding, which was made possible by the fruitful cooperation of all stakeholders, UzhNU will be able to expand its international relations, deepen research and introduce innovative teaching methods. In the long run, this will help improve academic mobility, develop new programs and research initiatives, and improve the quality of education for students, which is the key to their successful future in a globalized world.
