The international activities of Uzhhorod National University were discussed at a meeting of the Academic Council of UzhNU
On Monday, 30 June, a regular meeting of the Academic Council of UzhNU was held. One of the key issues on the agenda was the international activities of Uzhhorod National University. In addition, the following issues were considered setting limits on the number of scholarship recipients for academic scholarships for July-August 2025 and the first semester of the 2025/2026 academic year the approval of candidates for the award of named scholarships to university students based on the results of the summer session for the first semester of the 2025/2026 academic year.
Traditionally, at the beginning of the meeting, UzhNU Rector Volodymyr Smolanka presented certificates, letters of appreciation and diplomas of academic degrees to UzhNU employees and students. Photos from the ceremony can be found at the link.
Next, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work Myroslava Lendiel reported on the international activities of Uzhhorod National University. "It is probably difficult to find a person in our university who is not involved in international activities. That is why we feel the significant results of this work. International activities are comprehensive – they include education, science and social activities,‘ said Myroslava Lendiel. ’UzhNU cooperates with about 150 foreign partners from 37 countries around the world. Active cooperation is ongoing with both long-standing friends of UzhNU and new colleagues. In particular, with the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan, Great Britain), Oregon State University (USA), Soongsil University (South Korea), Handong Global University (South Korea), the University of L'Aquila (Italy) and others.
Vice-Rector Myroslava Lendiel also focused the audience's attention on the international university networks of which UzhNU is a member. One of the manifestations of Uzhhorod National University in the European educational space is within the framework of the Twinning Initiative and the signed Memorandum of Understanding between Uzhhorod National University and the University of Central Lancashire. The results of this cooperation include online English courses with UCLAN teachers (85 people), three summer schools for students in Cyprus (61 people), visits by teachers and management to the partner university, the transfer of computer equipment, the staffing of a project office, and more.
The number of foreign trips by students and academic staff of UzhNU increased significantly during the reporting period, from 130 orders in 2021 to 674 orders in 2024. The purpose of the trips is to participate in international conferences and forums (30%), scientific and pedagogical internships, professional development (30%), participation in international projects and competitions, implementation of individual scholarship projects (15%), development of international cooperation, exchange of experience, and other activities (25%).
The report also detailed academic mobility within Erasmus+, double degree programmes, projects completed and implemented in 2021-2024, ongoing projects won during 2023-2025, and UzhNU's position in global rankings of higher education institutions.
The Academic Council also reviewed the certification files. By its decision, the academic title of associate professor of the Department of Surgical Disciplines was awarded to Mykhailo Vasylynets, associate professor of the Department of Internal Medicine – Svitlana Opalenyk, associate professor of the Department of Hungarian Philology – Oksana Talabirchuk. Regarding the selection of candidates for vacant positions of scientific and pedagogical staff: Ivan Khashcha was selected as head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Larisa Rostoka as head of the Department of Biochemistry and Pharmacology, Oleksandr Kutsyn as head of the Department of Hospital Therapy, Head of the Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection – Serhii Sukharev, Head of the Department of Paediatrics with Paediatric Infectious Diseases – Adrian Tomei, Head of the Department of Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases – Yelyzaveta Sirchak, Head of the Department of Ukrainian Language – Nataliia Venzhynovych, Head of the Department of Surgical Diseases – Yaroslav Popovych, Professor of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology – Vasyl Maliar.
