Uzhhorod National University celebrates Knowledge Day
Traditionally, Knowledge Day is celebrated in Ukraine on September 1. This holiday reminds us of the importance of learning, education, and cooperation in society. Education is the key to success, and each new academic year opens up endless opportunities for students.
On the occasion of Knowledge Day, Uzhhorod National University held celebrations and hosted 2,000 first-year students into the student body.
"Congratulations on your first day of study at UzhNU! Dear first-year students, your school days are over, when your parents bore enormous responsibility for you and controlled many aspects of your life. We thank them for raising you and supporting you in entering our university. Today is the day when that responsibility falls on your shoulders. But don't worry, we will gladly help you adjust to your new rhythm of life. Here you will find new mentors, new friends, and maybe even a loved one with whom you will walk through life," said UzhNU Rector Volodymyr Smolanka, welcoming the students. “So go ahead and make your dreams come true, lay the foundation for your future, and broaden your worldview!”
Bohdan Andriyiv, chairman of the Uzhhorod City Council, and Vasyl Demyanchuk, deputy chairman of Zakarpattia Regional Council, also joined in congratulating the UzhNU students.
This year, Knowledge Day was again held in wartime conditions, and some Ukrainian schoolchildren and students will not be able to sit at their desks in their native educational institutions. Even in the westernmost region of the country, the celebrations had to be interrupted due to an air raid alert.
The top-ranked first-year students were invited to the stage for the solemn ceremony hosted by Uzhhorod National University to accept the rights and responsibilities of a student. And to present the symbolic key to knowledge and student ID cards – Volodymyr Smolanka, head of the UzhNU Student Trade Union Committee Andriana Rehan and acting head of the University Student Council Maria Pylypenko.
This concluded the formal part of the ceremony. As part of the celebration of Knowledge Day, the first lecture on “Challenges and Opportunities of Modern Higher Education in a State of Martial Law. The Origins and Stages of Development of UzhNU” was held for students, along with a city tour for first-year students.
