About admission, academic departments and interesting leisure: UzhNU held an Open Day
On Wednesday, 12 March, the Open Day of Uzhhorod National University was held online. Pupils of schools, their parents, teachers and everyone interested could join the event. The audience of about 150 people had the opportunity to hear up-to-date information about the 2025 university admission rules and to get acquainted with the university, its specialities and study programmes, which will allow future applicants to obtain a quality higher education.
First of all, the Rector of UzhNU Volodymyr Smolanka addressed the participants of the Open Day: ‘Our university family has about 15 thousand students, which makes us the seventh largest university in the country by number of students. The success of our university is underlined by its places in the most authoritative rankings, both domestic and international. We offer education in a wide variety of fields, with over 200 study programmes. Despite the difficult times of war, we care about the welfare and comfortable conditions for our students. You can see this by looking at the dramatic changes that have been made to dormitory No. 4 and our buildings, which are located, as Uzhhorod residents used to say, on the BAM. I sincerely wish you the best results in the NMT. We look forward to seeing a new generation every year, because not only do we teach you, but we learn from you.’
Ihor Korol, Vice-Rector of UzhNU, who also moderated the event, said: ‘Any family has younger and older generations, and for us, these are bachelors, masters, and postgraduate students, who together number more than 15,000. It is important that the number of our students is increasing every year. We hope that international students will soon return to us. Indeed, we provide ample opportunities for education at 19 faculties, two institutes and a professional college. You can learn more about them by visiting our website. Here you will find a lot of useful information, announcements, and news about university life. I especially advise you to pay attention to the ‘For Applicants’ tab, where you can learn everything about academic departments, study programmes, and specialities.’ Ihor Korol also spoke about the living conditions in the dormitories and additional opportunities for students, namely: international mobility, a youth centre, sports improvement, and student leisure.
Then, having raised the issue of entertainment and free time for students, the floor was given to Dmytro Koytyuk, head of the Youth Hub youth centre. The space for non-formal education, coworking, board games, speaking clubs, workshops and trainings, film screenings and other types of leisure and self-development was opened last year at UzhNU. Currently, the youth centre hosts many activities that every student can join.
Most of the students' questions concerned the 2025 admission campaign. Therefore, Olha Syniavska, Deputy Executive Secretary of the UzhNU Admissions Committee, spoke to potential applicants and told them in detail about all the known novelties of this year's admission: ‘According to the Admissions Procedure, admission to higher education institutions in 2025 for a bachelor's or master's degree in medicine or pharmacy will be based on the results of the National Multisubject Test (NMT) 2022-2025, a creative competition, interviews, and consideration of motivation letters. The HMT is a mandatory component of the SSCE-based admission process. This year, it is planned that to enter both the state-funded and contract programmes, applicants will have to take the HMT in four subjects in one day. Three subjects are compulsory (Ukrainian language, mathematics, history of Ukraine), and one subject is optional (Ukrainian literature, geography, biology, physics, chemistry, English/German/French/Spanish),’ said Olha Syniavska.
Natalia Gabchak, Dean of the Faculty of Tourism and International Communications, also joined the conversation and informed the audience about the benefits of studying at her faculty.
Finally, the participants of the event were able to get answers to all their questions about admission, education at UzhNU and about individual departments that interested them.
