Rector of UzhNU Volodymyr Smolanka reported on the results of the work done in 2018/2019 and the priorities for the next academic year
On Friday, August 30, 2019, a solemn meeting of the Academic Council of UzhNU was held on the occasion of the beginning of a new academic year. The main issue on the agenda was the report of the Rector of UzhNU, the chairman of the Academic Council, prof. Volodymyr Smolanka "On the results of the work of SHEI«UzhNU» in the academic year 2018/2019 and the priority tasks for the academic year 2019/2020".
First of all, Volodymyr Smolanka told about the preliminary results of the admission ampaign to Uzhhorod National University, which will last until the end of October. As for the successes in the field of science and innovation, in 2019 the financing of scientific projects at the expense of the government budget increased by 1 million 172 thousand 285 UAH (by 12.6%) and made up 9 million 292 thousand 575 UAH. Scientists of the university are carrying out 21 scientific projects. In 2019, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine allocated 2 million UAH for the purchase of equipment for the "Laboratory of Experimental and Applied Physics". The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine highly estimated the scientific achievements of UzhNU and increased the number of post-graduate courses seats paid for from the government budget by 4% in the academic year 2019/2020.
UzhNU keeps improving its position in the authoritative international rankings. UzhNU is ranked 11th among all Ukrainian universities according to Webometrics. For comparison, in 2014 UzhNU was only in the 145 position. According to «Scopus» UzhNU is ranked the 13th among the universities of Ukraine.
We continue to purchase equipment not only for the educational purposes but also for the scientific activity carried out by teachers and students. In particular, as a result of open bidding, the university has concluded contracts for the purchase of systems for conducting polymerase chain reaction with real-time detection of ARIA MX, spectrophotometer/fluorimeter with cell module DS11-FX +, and a CORS station set (permanent GNSS station).
International cooperation is the sphere of activity UzhNU can be particularly proud of. UzhNU cooperates with 116 foreign partner institutions from 24 countries of the world. In the previous academic year, 14+ new bilateral international agreements were signed, 724 foreign business trips were made, including 217 ones made by students, 7 international double degree diploma programmes and 17 European mobility projects were implemented, and 240 foreign guests were received.
In his report, Volodymyr Smolanka also referred to energy saving, current repairs, financial assistance paid to university employees, as well as challenges and plans for the academic year 2019-2020.
“Next year will be a significant one for our university. After all, we are approaching the celebration of the 75th anniversary of UzhNU. And we will do everything to celebrate such an important holiday of our university with even higher positions in the ratings, better physical infrastructure, a wider range of international partners, more scientific works and higher achievements of our students,” summed up his speech Volodymyr Smolanka.
