UzhNU is actively preparing for the new academic year
Uzhhorod National University is actively preparing for the new academic year on hot summer days. It has already become a good tradition to renovate not only classrooms, but also the premises of student hostels. The rector of the university Volodymyr Smolanka admits that more time is needed for the renovation of all the hostels but repair works in residential buildings will continue.
While students are enjoying summer vacations, the university managers are inspecting the university facilities where major and routine overhaul has been made. The rector Volodymyr Smolanka and two vice-rectors – Oleksandr Rohach and Dmytro Soyma have inspected the readiness of the university premises for the new academic year.
First, they visited the Faculty of Medicine, where a major repair of the basement had been done. It will be used by the Department of Anatomy from the new academic year. Students of forensic medicine, general surgery and anatomy will have classes here.
Then they visited hostel #3. Here, the repair works continue on the fifth floor and are almost completed on the fourth floor. Vice-rector for administrative policy Dmytro Soyma says that this year, in the hostel, they made cosmetic repairs of the hallways, replaced all the doors of students’ rooms and renovated the kitchen and the bathroom. University managers say that it's difficult to fix something that has been abandoned for over 60 years.
Then, they inspected the Faculty of Healthcare and Physical Education. Here, the renovations have been done in a small gym.
The university rector Volodymyr Smolanka admits that his impressions of what he sees are good. "Every year before the beginning of the training we inspect all the buildings that needed repair,- says Mr. Smolanka, - and see what we managed to do and what else needs to be done. One of the biggest problems that required urgent solution was to provide the Department of Anatomy with the premises (it was based in the regional clinical hospital before). We decided to renovate and equip the necessary premises at the Faculty of Medicine for the work of this department.
Renovations are annually made in the hostels of UzhNU. Last year we began large-scale renovations in hostels #4 and #2. This year we have renovated the fourth and the fifth floors of hostel #3 including bathrooms and kitchens. In general, it is difficult to estimate what has already been accomplished. Routine overhaul was carried out at fifty two university objects, and major overhaul at seven. We do not forget about other aspects of students’ comfort. So, this year we replaced two hundred and fifty mattresses and pillows for our students and purchased computers to equip 4 new computer labs which cost almost 800 thousand UAH"- commented the rector.
In addition to the above mentioned facts, it should be noted that many classrooms and laboratories at the Faculties of Biology, Physics. Chemistry have already been renovated too.
