Lviv Educational Research Institute (LERI) of Uzhgorod National University trains specialists in educational qualification of a junior specialist, bachelor, specialist and master of the majors(specialisms) accredited in UzhNU.

LERI provides the economy of Western Ukraine with highly skilled specialists that successfully operate in different sectors of the economy. In its activities Lviv Educational Research Institute is guided by the strategic objectives of building the national system of higher education as determined by the State National Program "Education" ("Ukraine of XXIst century"), the National Doctrine of Education Development and Decrees of the President of Ukraine in science and education. These include: developing new models at different levels of higher education; transition to a flexible, dynamic tiered system of training specialists; identifying the areas of basic higher education and related specialisms for qualification levels, taking into account national and international experience, achieving a new level of professional training of specialists with higher education, improving physical and psychological readiness of the younger generation for active life and professional activity. The urgency of the tasks is confirmed by the dynamism of social processes in the contemporary picture of social life.

The Institute is headed by Acting Director Varholyk Halyna V. She graduated from Kamenetz-Podolsk State Pedagogical University, majoring in "Defectology, tyflopedagogy" (1999) and the National University "Lviv Polytechnics", majoring in "Management of Educational Institutions" (2009), has a master's degree in the university management.

Today, at LERI UzhNU students are enrolled for specialisms "Philology", "Applied Linguistics", "Practical Psychology", "Tourism", "Tourism Studies", "Law", "Banking", "Computer Science", "Software of Automated Systems"," Countries’ Study"," International Business"," Tourism Service"," Software Development".

"Philology" ("Applied Linguistics")

The need for specialists in applied linguistics exists in such areas as computerization of education, computerized translation and dictionaries, and automatic methods of processing text information, linguistic support of information technology, automation of information works, creation of information retrieval, automatic speech recognition and synthesis .

Graduates are awarded the qualification:

  • "bachelor" - Linguist-IT specialist, translator;
  • "specialist" - Linguist- IT specialist, translator. Teacher of English.

Students have interpreting and teaching work-placement in enterprises, language centers, translation bureaus, chambers of commerce, educational institutions and other organizations.

Graduates majoring in "Philology. Applied Linguistics" can take the following positions:

  • interpreter (oral and written translation from a foreign language into Ukrainian and vice versa);
  • editor of newspapers and magazines;
  • Specialist in advertising;
  • Specialist in language expertise;
  • Consultant in political speech technologies;
  • Consultant of the media;
  • Specialist in linguistic correction;
  • Specialist-linguist at the department of operating computer linguistic systems;
  • Specialist-linguist at the department of designing computer linguistic systems;
  • Specialist-designer of web pages;
  • Assistant with a foreign language and skills in computer word processing technology;
  • Expert in the language analysis and synthesis;
  • Specialist in developing electronic dictionaries (monolingual, terminology, idiomatic, etc.);
  • Specialist in developing of hypertext technologies to disseminate information in the Internet;
  • Specialist in linguistic support of computer training programs in foreign languages;
  • specialist in developing distance learning programs;
  • language teacher at schools of various levels of accreditation.

"Practical Psychology"

Practical psychology is the area of professional activity that aims at optimizing individual human development and preserving its social and mental health. Specialists in applied psychology are needed for the practical work and research in the following areas: psychological service of education, social and psychological services for youth, family psychology and social protection, social and psychological assistance, legal psychology, political psychology, military and sports psychology, psychology of economy and business, management psychology, clinical psychology, environmental psychology, psychology of religion.

Graduates are awarded the qualification

  • "bachelor" - practical psychologist;
  • "specialist" - practical psychologist, teacher of psychology.

Main areas of professional activity are diagnostic, corrective, consultative, communicative, teaching, educational, developmental, and organizational. Bachelor of applied psychology, under conditions of acquiring experience, can adapt to such adjacent areas of professional activity as accounting and control, administrative, research and others.

Graduates in "Practical Psychology" can take the following positions:
  • practical psychologist at educational institutions;
  • practical psychologist at the enterprise;
  • practical psychologist in government and administration;
  • counseling psychologist;
  • laboratory worker(psychological research);
  • educator;
  • advertising representative;
  • personal assistant;
  • teacher of psychology at schools of various levels of accreditation.

Lviv Educational Research Institute employs on a regular basis 21 teachers: 14 PhDs, associate professors, 2 senior fellows, 5 teachers. Among them:

Borzenko Svetlana G.,

Professor, Ph.D. (pedagogy), associate professor, graduated from Lomonosov Moscow State University, majoring in philology. In 1983 she defended her PhD thesis on the topic "Training foreign medical students for professional communication." She is the author of over 60 scientific papers in applied linguistics, teaches subjects of the linguistic cycle, methodology of foreign language teaching, educational psychology, fundamentals of applied linguistics.

Yakymovych Tatiana D.

Ph.D. (pedagogy), Senior Research Fellow, graduated from Lviv Polytechnic Institute, majoring in semiconductor and microelectronic devices. In 2001 she defended her thesis on "Integrating theoretical and industrial training." She is the author of over 60 scientific papers on vocational pedagogy, teaches psychological and pedagogical disciplines, pedagogy and psychology of vocational training, career guidance and professional selection, methods of teaching in higher education.

Danylovich Vera P.,

PhD (physico-mathematical sciences), graduated from Ivan Franko Drogobych Pedagogical Institute majoring in math and the post-graduate course at the Institute of Mathematics of the Academy of Sciences, Department of Applied Mathematics. In 1972 she defended her thesis on "Numerical methods for solving the inverse problem of the logarithmic potential". She is the author of over 90 scientific papers on applied mathematics, numerical methods and mathematical modeling, teaches higher mathematics, mathematical methods of research in international relations, decision taking theory, numerical methods in computer science, functional and convex analysis, mathematical methods of operations research.

Tsokh Larissa Yo.,

PhD (Philology), the leading specialist of the Institute, graduated from Ivan Franko Lviv State University majoring in "Slavic philology." In 1992 she defended her thesis on "Features of Czech literary criticism in 1930s". She is the author of more than thirty scientific papers on the theory of literature, translation studies, and applied linguistics, teaches subjects of the translation series, research methodology, Czech language.

Melnick Alexandra V.,

The leading specialist of the Institute, the author of scientific papers and teaching materials on the issues of educational psychology, teaches activity psychology, communication processes of education, introduction to group psychotherapy.
