Project description: The problem of food waste has not been given the necessary attention for a long time, but today, due to the growing level of hunger around the world, it is extremely relevant. By 2050, food demand is likely to increase by 40% to 70%. On the other hand, about a third of food goes to waste (about 1.3 billion tons per year). More than 40% of food losses occur after harvest and processing in developing countries.
This project focuses on the following topics:
- Composite analysis of food waste and losses in Turkey, Italy, Germany and Slovakia
- Quantitative determination of food losses in the milk and meat sector
- Training of production engineers in factories
- Development of consumer consciousness to avoid the growth of food waste
- Reducing food waste and creating a sustainable food future.

In experiments in vivo , a search for synergistic effects from the combination of selected pro- and prebiotic components of pharmabiotics was performed. 7 promising combinations were identified, which statistically significantly demonstrate the nonlinearity of the effects of their components on the intestinal microbiome of experimental animals. Microbial and immune markers for trigger states and concomitant and selected NCCs have been refined. A geoinformation system has been created and the selection of plants and microorganisms for personalized correction of the intestinal microbiome has been implemented. Using the bioinformatics methodology developed by us, microbial and immune markers of the microbiome correction process in obesity and type 2 diabetes were determined, and the possibility of controlling the individual course of atherosclerosis was confirmed.
