The Rector of UzhNU Volodymyr Smolanka delivered a lecture at the congress of the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies in Brussels
The Congress of the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (EANS), which included the lectures from the best neurosurgeons of Europe, the USA, Australia and Japan, was held in Brussels last week. More than 1,000 neurosurgeons from all over the world took part in it. The Rector of Uzhhorod National University, Professor V. I. Smolanka, was one of the lecturers invited to the congress. He gave a lecture on "Suprasellar, III Ventricle and Pineal Tumors". Resections of such tumors are the most complicated surgeries and are performed only by the most experienced neurosurgeons in the world.
Volodymyr Smolanka said: "I’m pleased to be invited as a lecturer by the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies for the third consecutive time. They also cover all the travel expenses. This year, they asked me to highlight the problem of treatment of deep-seated middle line brain tumors. At present, the treatment options for these tumors used by me are microsurgical resection with the help of an operating microscope and endoscopic resection. Most of my patients are children, which imposes bigger responsibility on the surgeon. The number of patients operated by me in the Center for Neurosurgery and Neurology is one of the largest in Europe. This can be explained, in particular, by the fact that the patients with such tumors are sent to our center from all parts of Ukraine. The new scientific and practical information received at the congress has already been thoroughly studied and will be used to restore our patients’ health.”
