Uzhhorod National University and Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (Poland) signed an agreement on double diplomas

Uzhhorod National University and Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (Poland) signed an agreement on double diplomas

On Monday, 12 May, the final stage of the fruitful cooperation between Uzhhorod National University and Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (Poland) took place - the signing of an agreement on double diplomas for the speciality ‘Geography’.To this end, a Polish delegation visited UzhNU, consisting of the Rector of Maria Curie-Skłodowska University Radosław Dobrowolski, Vice-Rector for General Affairs Arkadiusz Bereza, Rector's Commissioner for Cooperation with Ukraine Zbigniew Wojciechowski, and Dean of the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Spatial Management Yolanda Rojos.

Double degree programmes are joint educational programmes of Ukrainian and foreign universities that allow students to obtain two degrees in parallel through integrated curricula. Thus, students of UzhNU will have the opportunity to obtain two diplomas - from UzhNU and Maria Curie-Skłodowska University - without leaving Ukraine.

‘Today is an important day for our university, for which we have been preparing for a long time. Our deans' offices and academic departments have done a great job to bring us together today on the occasion of a great event for both universities, - said the Rector of UzhNU Volodymyr Smolanka - The signing of this agreement will not only promote the speciality “Geography” among the entrants, but also another manifestation of the incredible friendly relations between our countries. I always use meetings with Polish partners to once again express our gratitude to the citizens and government of Poland for supporting the Ukrainian people in the most difficult times.’

Vice-Rector Myroslava Lendiel said: ‘Every word of this document has been verified and every detail has been thought out. So I am sure that those Ukrainian and Polish students who will take advantage of this agreement will receive the highest quality knowledge in the field of earth science. The Faculty of Biology, the Educational and Research Institute of Chemistry and Ecology, and the Faculty of Mathematics and Digital Technologies of UzhNU already have a lot of experience with Polish partners. So today will be an incentive for other UzhNU departments to work even more fruitfully and actively on future agreements.’

In a globalised community, international cooperation programmes help and create new opportunities for higher education. The impetus for the implementation of the double degree programme is the successful results of cooperation after the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Rector of UzhNU Volodymyr Smolanka and the Rector of Marie Curie-Skłodowska University Radoslav Dobrovolsky. Also in the summer of 2024, a memorandum of cooperation between the universities was signed in Lublin, which concerned a project aimed at reducing the impact of climate change on the local environment.
