Uzhhorod National University among the world's leading universities according to Times Higher Education 2026

The British publication Times Higher Education has published its annual ranking of the world's best universities, World University Rankings 2026. Every year, Times Higher Education publishes a ranking of the world's best universities, which is trusted by students, academics, governments, and industry experts. This year's ranking includes 2,191 educational institutions from 115 countries.

Uzhhorod National University was included in the ranking along with 22 other Ukrainian universities and is ranked in the 1501+ group.

The World University Rankings 2026 are led by institutions from the US and the UK: first place goes to the University of Oxford (UK), second place to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (US), and third place is shared by Princeton University (US) and the University of Cambridge (UK). In addition, universities from these two countries fill the entire top 10 of the ranking.

Times Higher Education World University Rankings is one of the three largest international university rankings, along with the Shanghai ARWU and the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) ranking.

The methodology of THE WUR 2026 ranking is based on the analysis of data on the number of students and faculty, institutional and industrial income, teaching and research reputation.

UzhNU ranks highest in the “International Outlook” section, entering the top five Ukrainian universities in this category. Our alma mater also ranks high in the “Research Environment” section. We managed to improve our score in the “Research Quality” category.

Compared to last year, the ranking has been significantly expanded with new universities, their number increasing from 2,095 to 2,191. The number of Ukrainian higher education institutions increased from 17 to 22. In addition to the 2,191 ranked institutions, another 927 universities have “reporter” status, which means that the data they provide does not meet the criteria for inclusion in the above-mentioned ranking. Among them are 45 domestic educational institutions.

The preservation of the position of Uzhhorod National University is the result of the incredible work of the staff, students, and teachers and confirmation of the high level of education and science at the university. This proves once again that UzhNU continues to work effectively and develop even in these difficult times for the country.
