UzhNU is on the 8th place among Ukrainian universities according to the world ranking GreenMetric

Every year in December, the results of the GreenMetric World University Rankings are published, which classifies educational institutions according to their commitments and actions to preserve environmental sustainability.  According to the new ranking of 2023, Uzhhorod National University ranks 8th among Ukrainian universities.

Uzhhorod National University annually shows positive dynamics in the GreenMetric ranking. In 2022, it was ranked 9th, in 2020 it was ranked 14th, and in 2021 it was ranked 11th. Last year, UzhNU entered the top 10 best universities in Ukraine for the first time.

It is worth noting that this ranking reflects UzhNU's consistent strategy of moving towards the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and the result of project work that focuses on energy efficiency, climate change mitigation through the regional level of carbon footprint, and the study of the impact of river pollution on environmental biodiversity. In particular, UzhNU is implementing the projects "Environment for the Future through Scientific Education" and "New Energy Solutions in the Carpathian Region" within the framework of the EU-funded Joint Operational Programme Hungary-Slovakia-Romania-Ukraine 2014-2020. The university is also involved in the project "Smart Energy for Cross-border Cooperation" within the framework of the Joint Operational Programme Romania-Ukraine 2014-2020, funded by the EU, and the project "Supporting the Higher Education System in the Context of Climate Change Mitigation through the Regional Carbon Footprint of Production, Construction and Organisations" within the Erasmus+ programme

The GreenMetric World University Rankings was founded in 2010.  Its goal is to quantify efforts to support the sustainability of campuses. The ranking is based on the conceptual framework of environment, economy and equity. According to the authors of the ranking, universities play an important role in the joint efforts of stakeholders and communities to combat climate change. By promoting and developing new ideas and innovations, universities can contribute to energy and water conservation, waste recycling, and sustainable transport.

The ranking currently includes 1183 universities from around the world, including 19 Ukrainian universities.
