UzhNU Science Park activity was presented at the environmental forum in Polyana
A forum of regional environmental initiatives "Polyana-ECO 2017" was held in the village of Polyana on Thursday, November 30th 2017. It was attended by representatives of state and local self-government authorities, scientists, diplomats, public activists, entrepreneurs.
The constituent assembly of the “Regional Association of Local Self-Government Authorities "Transcarpathia for a Clean Environment" and a presentation of the regional ecological program "Preservation of the Tysa River valley ecosystem in the border area of Ukraine, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia" took place during the forum.
In their speeches, the participants of the forum mentioned that 9,426 watercourses with the total length of 16,147 km were located in the Tysa River basin. For the most part, these are small rivers, only 142 of them are longer than 10 km, and only 4 are more than 100 km long. These are the Tysa, the Latorytsa, the Uzh and the Borzhava. As a result of the analysis of the status of the Tysa River basin, it was discovered that only the water bodies of the upper reaches of the Chorna and Bila Tysas, the Rika, the Teresva, the Borzhava, the Latorytsa and the Uzh could be awarded with good and excellent status. The ecological status of the downstreams of these rivers is satisfactory or bad. Basic water management problems and negative factors of influence were also determined at the forum. They include pollution with organic, nutrient substances and heavy metals, changes in the morphology of the river bed and river banks, as well as littering the river beds and banks with household rubbish.
The main goal of the association "Transcarpathia for a Clean Environment" is to improve the negative environmental situation. The program of activities adopted at the forum provides for the development of complex projects for the reconstruction of existing and construction of modern treatment facilities, reconstruction and construction of sewage networks in Polyana, Velykyi Bereznyi, Perechyn, Storozhnytsia, Bushtyno, Irshava, Volovets, Mizhhirya. The project will be implemented in the years 2018-2021, and the budget is 25 million Euro.
