UzhNU Representative Attends International Symposium on Sustainable Development in Tallinn
On March 18–19, 2026, Tallinn University (Tallinn, Estonia) hosted the international symposium “Universities as Agents of Change in Sustainable Development,” which brought together over 120 participants from 29 countries and 81 universities worldwide.
The event focused on the role of universities in promoting sustainable development and was based on the idea of the need to transition from isolated initiatives to systematic, proactive, and measurable approaches. The symposium addressed issues related to integrating sustainable development into educational programs, research, campus activities, and engagement with communities. Special attention was paid to the development of international and cross-sectoral partnerships between universities, government bodies, businesses, and civil society organizations.

Uzhhorod National University was represented at this event by the Director of the Center for Sustainable Development and Associate Professor of the Department of International Studies and Public Communications, Hanna Melehanych, who was the only speaker from Ukraine. In her presentation, she shared the experience of Ukrainian universities in implementing sustainable development principles amid the war, and outlined approaches to integrating the concepts of sustainability and resilience in higher education. Particular attention was given to the policies and practices of Uzhhorod National University in this area.
Participation in the symposium provided an important opportunity to present Ukrainian experience at the international level, establish new partnerships, and exchange best practices with colleagues from various countries. Additionally, the event contributed to expanding cooperation in the field of education for sustainable development and strengthening the role of universities as agents of positive change in society.
