Modern Urban Management Trends Became the Topic of the International Conference
The academic staff of the Department of International Studies and Public Communication co-organised the Final International Conference “Unlocking the City’s Potential: Strengthening Public Institutions through Slovak-Ukrainian Cross-Border Cooperation in the Enlarged European Area” within the framework of the project “Cities in the Enlarged European Area: Joint Development of Capacities of Public Institutions by Slovak-Ukrainian Cross-border Cooperation and Improving Integrity in Public Affairs (CEEA)”, as well as took part in it. The Conference was funded under the financial mechanism of the EEA and the state budget of the Slovak Republic. The Department of International Cooperation and Innovation of Uzhhorod City Council participated in it as one of the project partners.The Conference was held on April 18-19, 2024 in the city of Uzhhorod.
The Conference covered various topics, including effective urban management, development of city programmes, successful practices of bringing state institutions closer to citizens, improving inclusiveness, and implementing green innovations.
Assoc. Prof. Vitaliy Andreyko, Dean of the Faculty of History and International Relations of Uzhhorod National University, devoted his report to the theme of “RE-DIRECTION - Rethinking Higher Education in the Digital Context, while Promoting the Creation of a Collaborative, Inclusive, and Sustainable Structure Based on Best Practices and EU Policy Recommendations”.
Professor Ihor Todorov, Uzhhorod National University, dwelled on “Security Dimension of Ukrainian-Slovak Cooperation in the Context of Russian Aggression”.
Mykhailo Shelemba, Associate Professor of the Department of International Studies and Public Communication, Uzhhorod National University, revealed the topic: “Challenges and Obstacles to Cross-Border Cooperation on the Ukrainian-Slovak Border”.
Petro Tokar, Director of the Institute for European Integration Studies, Uzhhorod National University, presented “Study on the Decline in Business Activity in Ukraine”.
Marta Shelemba, Associate Professor of the Department of International Studies and Public Communication, Uzhhorod National University delivered a speech on “Studying European Cities’ Experience in Transparency, Accountability, and Participation to Identify Growth Points for the Uzhhorod City Council”.
Hanna Melehanych, Associate Professor of the Department of International Studies and Public Communication, Uzhhorod National University, focused on “Local Sustainable Development Strategy as a Basis for Future Preparedness of Ukrainian Communities: A Case Study of Uzhhorod City”.
The event was hosted in a hybrid format: offline in Uzhhorod, with several participants joining online from Slovakia, Norway, Germany, and Kharkiv.
