Memorandum on the establishment of the International Consortium of Universities has been signed at the conference held in UzhNU
International Scientific and Practical Conference «Education Mobility, Innovation Culture and Social Responsibility as the Resources of Competitiveness of European Universities» supported by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has taken place in UzhNU. The conference has been attended by the heads of the leading universities of Ukraine and Europe, officials and diplomats. The main outcome of the event is the signing of the Memorandum on the establishment of International Consortium of Universities.
The purpose of the conference was to discuss the effectiveness of various forms of student and academic staff mobility, incentives for innovation, technology, creativity atmosphere in general, the introduction of sustainable, socially responsible university conception.
The purpose of the Consortium is to establish and coordinate inter-institutional cooperation in the areas of academic mobility, research, technological development and innovation, improving the competitiveness at national and international levels.
The main areas of cooperation between the parties are organization of joint conferences, symposia, seminars and other scientific meetings; preparation and publication of joint educational and scientific editions; academic mobility of students, doctoral students and lecturers; development of joint educational and research programs; mutually beneficial cooperation with government, business and other interested parties; development, promotion of joint projects to national and international donors and their implementation.
The Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Serhiy Kvit had an intention to participate in the conference. However, the official went to France as a member of the official delegation of Ukraine. Rector of Uzhhorod National University, Professor Volodymyr Smolanka said the words of greetings and wished productive work to conference participants on Minister’s behalf.
Volodymyr Chubirko, the Chair of the Transcarpathian Regional Council said in his welcoming speech: "In Transcarpathia all educational institutions attempt to equal our university, keep track of its achievements and its cooperation with European universities. We have a new law on education in Ukraine and universities can successfully integrate into the European education system. UzhNU can become a bridge between Ukrainian education and European community". The Chairman of the council promised an extensive assistance for UzhNU to become one of the best universities of the European level.
Consul General of the Slovak Republic in Uzhgorod Janka Burianova pointed out in her speech: "It is necessary to invest knowledge, experience and resources to achieve good results. Therefore, international exchange of knowledge and experience is very important. We live in the time of change and innovation. Society expects for the creation of new environment in schools and universities. This is about an interesting and meaningful life open to innovation activity. UzhNU has beneficial geographical location and I am proud that Slovak universities belong to a wide circle of partner educational institutions of UzhNU."
Leaders of foreign universities emphasized their interest in establishing cooperation with Uzhhorod National University. New forms of such cooperation, creation of new technologies and innovations have been offered. Particular attention was paid to the issue of academic mobility as a form of integration into the European educational space. The social role of universities in community development was also discussed.
Prof. Volodymyr Smolanka reminded that UzhNU has more than 90 international partners, joint projects were being implemented and regular international conferences were held. University scientists carry out joint research projects with numerous foreign partners.
