Hostels and academic buildings of UzhNU are to be renovated this summer
It is planned to overhaul completely several buildings of UzhNU and update classrooms with new furniture by the end of the year. Minor repairs are to be done during the summer for students to start new academic year in qualitatively new premises. Large-scale projects require more time and expenses, but they are among the priorities of the UzhNU economic department leadership. Dmytro Soyma, Vice-Rector for Administrative Policy of UzhNU told us more about what and how would be repaired in UzhNU in the near future.
- A plan for routine overhaul of UzhNU for the years 2015-2017 has been approved. According to this document there have been selected the objects that require repairing most of all. First of all it is planned to replace the roof of the Faculty of Chemistry. Repair estimate documentation for the amount that equals 1 million 778 thousand UAH has been prepared. Currently we are preparing documents to announce a tender and are seeking for funds. Hopefully, in a few months repair works will be completed.
The second priority is the renovation of bathrooms, toilets and standpipes in hostel №2. Repair estimate documents have already been prepared and tender has been announced. Next week we are going to review suggestions. The cost of all works in hostel №2 should not exceed 2 million UAH. Another urgent issue is a replacement of water supply system in hostel №4 from where water is also supplied to hostel №5. We need another million UAH for these works. The total length of the basement, where the water supply system is installed is 156 meters. In order to ensure normal water supply we need the pipes with the diameter at least 86 mm. We have also developed repair estimate documents for the repair of standpipes in hostel №4.
The old boiler house in Mytna st. supplying heat for three student hostels (№ 1,2,3) is an extremely important object. We have already repaired three old boiler houses supplying heat to the buildings on "Bam", hostels №4 and 5 and the administrative building of UzhNU on Narodna Square, 3. By putting new boiler houses into operation we saved 400 thousand cubic meters of gas, which equals to 3 million UAH a year. According to our calculations by putting into operation the new boiler house in Mytna st. we will save about 150 thousand cubic meters of gas a year (about 1 million UAH).
- Are you planning to carry out maintenance overhaul in the university premises?
- Of course, we have approved a plan of carrying out maintenance overhaul, which is to be done by the team of workers and other specialists. It includes painting walls, replacing old pipes, fixing windows and doors. During the summer we are going to renovate university classrooms and corridors.
- How many objects of UzhNU need repair?
- There are very old buildings in UzhNU funds. In particular, we are making an estimate of hostel №5 overhaul expenses, which has not been renovated for 15 years. The roof of the swimming pool also needs repairing. In the future we plan to carry out major repairs of the Faculty of Law building and the roof of administrative building. The building of the Faculty of Postgraduate and Pre-university Education requires a thorough repair of the heating system. The buildings of the Engineering Faculty in Paryzhskoyi Komuny st. also need renovation.
The amounts of money spent on renovation are much higher compared to previous years. The cost of building materials is several times higher, labour cost also rose. But we perform the work plan well and use costs rationally.
