Christoph le Rigoler, the First Councelor to the Embassy of France in Ukraine, paid a visit to the Faculty of Foreign Philology of UzhNU

Last week, the First Councelor to the Embassy of France in Ukraine, Christoph le Rigoler, visited the Faculty of Foreign Philology of UzhNU in connection with the year of the French language in Ukraine. The purpose of his visit is the popularization of the French language in our country, as well as the communication with the students of the Department of French.

Not so long ago, the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, emphasized the need to reinterpret Francophonie around the world. "French should become the language of initiatives, the language of creativity and creation (langue de creation), as opposed to English, which is the language of consumption (langue de consummation) and daily use (langue d'use)," said Emmanuel Macron and also outlined the work with the youth, which was the driving force for the future development, as the priority issue.

Ukraine belongs to the countries – observers of Francophonie and facilitates the promotion of French, the third most popular foreign language, on its territory. A series of events aimed at popularizing French as a language of great practical importance has already taken place this year.

We are glad that our university and the region are actively involved in the aforementioned events and the visit of the First Councelor to the Embassy of France in Ukraine is the evidence of it.

Christoph le Rigoler's meeting with the representatives of the Faculty of Foreign Affairs was fruitful. In a warm atmosphere, they discussed interesting, but somewhat thorny cultural exchange issues. It is interesting to note that the diplomat knew modern Ukrainian writers better than his domestic ones.

At the end of the meeting, Mr. Rigoler promised to develop collaboration with the students and lecturers of our university, who agreed to enter into a kind of cooperation with the diplomat and assist him in promoting the French language.
