World famous physicist Oleksandr Kokenyeshi is honorary doctor of UzhNU
The Rector of UzhNU, Professor Volodymyr Smolanka bestowed the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of UzhNU on the world famous scientist, Doctor of Sciences, Professor of the Department of Experimental Physics of the University of Debrecen (Hungary), Oleksandr Kokenyeshi at a meeting of the Academic Council of Uzhhorod National University on Thursday, February 23rd 2017.
Oleksandr (now Sandor) Kokenyeshi graduated from Uzhhorod State University and got his diploma in physics in 1969. He began his scientific career in the early 1970-ies, successfully graduated from the post-graduate courses of our university and worked as a senior research officer and later became the head of the laboratory of physics and chemistry of complex semiconductors.
In 1989, he was awarded with the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology for significant scientific achievements. In 1990, Oleksandr Kokenyeshi defended his doctoral thesis. Professor’s sphere of competence is science of materials and physics of semiconductors and dielectrics.
Oleksandr Kokenyeshi was the chair of the Department of Solid State Electronics of Uzhhorod State University for nine years (1991 - 2000). Professor’s research was acknowledged far beyond the borders of Ukraine, he was recognized an expert by the EU Scientific Committee. In 1998, he was awarded with the medal of the World Society of Hungarian Professors. He has been a supervisor of the research topic of the Department of Experimental Physics at the University of Debrecen since 2001.

The title of Doctor Honoris Causa was conferred on Sandor Kokenyeshi by UzhNU for his personal scientific achievements in physics, education and science, for his contribution to the development of international scientific cooperation between Ukraine and Hungary, as well as the development and deepening of scientific cooperation with Uzhhorod National University.
Sandor Kokenyeshi said in his speech: "UzhNU brought me up from a student to Ph.D., scientist and Doctor of Science. This is the university, where I together my friends and colleagues achieved all that I could at that time. I’m glad I could work in the circle of famous physicists of Uzhhorod, who are known worldwide. It was the will of fate that I was invited to work in Debrecen, but I'm happy to make Uzhhorod University known around the world. I’m very pleased that I could bring more benefits to UzhNU working abroad than I would probably be able to bring staying and working in Uzhhorod. I‘m sure, that our friendship, our common ideas and our cooperation will last for many, many years."
