UzhNU signed a partnership agreement on the implementation of the Polish-Ukrainian project “Youth of the Carpathians for Eco-Smart Education”

On January 13-14, 2025, a partnership agreement was signed on the basis of the State University of Technology and Economics in Jarosław (Poland) to implement the Polish-Ukrainian project “Youth of the Carpathians for Eco-Smart Education” within the framework of the Interreg NEXT Poland-Ukraine 2021-2027 program.

Six partners are involved in the project: from the Polish side - the State University of Technology and Economics in Jarosław, the Carpathian Euroregion, and the Magura National Park.  Ukraine is represented by the Uzhhorod National University, the Zakarpattia Regional Development Agency, and the Uzhok National Nature Park.

Uzhhorod National University was represented at the signing by the Rector, Professor Volodymyr Smolanka, and the Dean of the Faculty of Biology, PhD, Associate Professor Yaroslava Hasynets. Over the course of two days, issues related to the project, including plans and goals for future cooperation, were discussed. They discussed the current state of higher education in both countries, as well as promising areas of cooperation.

As part of the project, a “Center for Natural and Environmental Education” will be created at Uzhhorod National University (on the territory of the botanical garden), which will become a unique platform for deepening knowledge about the nature of the Carpathians. Here, visitors will be able to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of nature through interactive exhibitions, multimedia presentations and fascinating excursions. Specialized environmental programs will also be introduced for schoolchildren in the border regions, which will include practical classes, excursions, and environmental projects to help young people understand the importance of environmental conservation and biodiversity.

According to the members of the working group, the total grant amount of the project is €1,632,618.93, and the grant for UzhNU is €290,389.29.
