UzhNU is ranked 10th among Ukrainian universities in the GreenMetric World University Rankings 2024
The results of the GreenMetric World University Rankings, which evaluates educational institutions for their contribution to environmental sustainability, have recently been released. According to the results of 2024, Uzhhorod National University was ranked 10th among Ukrainian universities.
GreenMetric is a global ranking of the world's ‘green’ universities, which was founded in 2010. It reflects the results of an online survey on the state and policy of universities in the field of sustainable development, and also promotes their environmental responsibility.
The 15th edition of the list features 1477 higher education institutions from 95 countries, 25 of which are Ukrainian. The final score was calculated on the basis of indicators in the following areas: infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste management, water management, transport, and environmental education and research.
It is pleasant to note that compared to the previous results of the ranking, UzhNU demonstrates positive dynamics. The total number of points received is 4750, which is 180 more than last year. The greatest progress is observed in the following blocks: waste management - 675 (+150) and water management - 350 (+140). The score was also improved in the following categories: infrastructure - 785 (+40 points), energy and climate change - 975 (+75 points), and transport - 975 (+50 points).
It is important to note that this ranking is an indicator of UzhNU's consistent strategy of moving towards the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which are aimed at overcoming poverty, eliminating social injustice and protecting our planet. It is also the result of international project work that focuses on energy efficiency, climate change mitigation through regional carbon footprinting, and studying the impact of river pollution on environmental biodiversity.
If we look at the achievements of domestic universities, as already mentioned, UzhNU ranks 10th. In the category of Water Resources Management, there has been significant progress - from 11th to 7th position. The same rankings as last year were maintained in the areas of infrastructure, waste management and transport.
Internationally, Uzhhorod National University is among the world's top 1000 universities.
