UzhNU delegation at the Danube Rectors’ Conference

Last week, a delegation of Uzhhorod National University, headed by its Rector Volodymyr Smolanka, participated in the annual Danube Rectors’ Conference, where the topical tasks for the universities as centers of regional development were discussed. The topic of this year's conference was "Consolidating the Role of Universities in Innovation Ecosystems: Challenges and Future Developments".

The 2019 Annual Meeting of the Danube Rectors' Conference took place at the University Politehnica of Bucharest, Romania, on 6-8 November 2019. The heads of the leading universities of Austria, Germany, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania, Moldova, Hungary, Slovakia and Ukraine noted that cooperation in the field of education, science and research, in particular, exchange of new ideas played an important role in the development of the region.

 The Danube region has great innovation potential, which has become apparent after the joint implementation of various EU projects, including Horizon 2020, Life +, Interreg, Erasmus +, etc.

The “Danubius” Prize, launched in 2011 by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research and the Institute for the Danube Region and Central Europe, was awarded at the conference to honour the scientists who had significant achievements in their research related to the Danube region.

This year, 14 young scientists from the countries participating in the EU Strategy for the Danube Region, including Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Romania and Ukraine, received the award. The Danubius Young Scienist Awardee from Ukraine is the Associate Professor of the Department of Theory and History of the State and Law of the Law Faculty of UzhNU Tereziia Popovych with the scientific project "Transhumanism and the Value Space of Law: Trends of Influence".

Next year, the Danube Rectors’ Conference will be held at Uzhhorod National University for the frst time.
