Two weeks before the election of UzhNU rector: the latest news

On Wednesday, June 9, 2021, the election of the rector of Uzhhorod National University will take place, where the head of the university will be elected for the next 5 years.

According to the current legislation, the Organizing Committee for the Election of the Rector and the Main Election Commission for the Election of the Rector have been established to organize and ensure the election process at the university.

According to the information provided by the Organizing Committee for the Election of the Rector, candidates for the position of the rector of UzhNU had two months from the date of the announcement of the competition to submit their applications to the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

The two-month period has expired. According to the letter sent to Uzhhorod National University, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine there will be only one person in the ballot paper - Smolanka Volodymyr Ivanovych, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor - candidate for the position of the rector of Uzhhorod National University. 

 By law, all full-time scientific, scientific-pedagogical and pedagogical employees (at least 75% of the total number of voters), as well as (on a quota basis) students (at least 15% of the total number of voters) and oher employees who do not belong to the category of scientific, scientific-pedagogical and pedagogical workers have the right to vote in the election of the rector.

The Organizing Committee determined the proportional quotas for the representation of students and other employees, and held meetings in the structural units of the university, where the representatives from among the students and other employees of the university were elected.

A total of 1,338 scientific, scientific-pedagogical and pedagogical staff members, 269 elected representatives from among students and 177 representatives from among other full-time employees will take part in the election. As for separate structural subdivisions of the university (Branch of SHEI “UzhNU", Natural Sciences and Humanities College), 75 scientific-pedagogical and pedagogical workers, 16 elected representatives from among students, 9 representatives from among other full-time employees will take part in voting. The total number of voters in the election of the rector of Uzhhorod National University will be 1,884 people.

According to the Law of Ukraine "On Higher Education", a person (candidate) who has received more than 50 percent of the votes of the persons entitled to participate in the election is considered to be the elected head of a higher education institution.
