The University of Presov solemnly celebrated the beginning of a new academic year
On Tuesday, September 20, the celebrations on the occasion of a new academic year were held at the University of Presov, which has been a partner university of UzhNU for many years.
The celebrations were attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Education of Slovakia, the mayor of Presov Andrea Turcanova, bishops and the delegations of several dozens of universities of Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic and Ukraine, the University of Presov had been maintaining close scientific and educational relations with. UzhNU was represented by the Vice-Rector Professor Ihor Studenyak and the Head of PR department of UzhNU Vasyl Ilnytskyy.
On behalf of the Rector of UzhNU Professor Volodymyr Smolanka, Ihor Studenyak handed the Rector of Prešov University professor Peter Kon’ a congratulatory letter, in which, inter alia, it was stated: "Historically, there have always been friendly relations between our universities. Every year, our scientists share their experience, discuss at joint conferences and symposia, and students take a semester of study. Owing to the efforts of our scientists, joint projects are developed and implemented. Let me express our gratitude for many years of creative collaboration and hope for its further development for the sake of our friendship and good-neighborliness between our countries, our peoples".
The University of Presov is the third largest university in Slovakia by the number of faculties. It has about 12, 500 students and about 1,000 teachers. It has been functioning in its current status since 1997, when there was a division of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University into two separate universities in Kosice and Presov. However, the history of most of its faculties is much longer. Greek Catholic Theological Faculty has existed since 1880, Pedagogical - since 1949, the Faculty of Orthodox Theology – since 1950, Philosophy – since 1959. The Faculty of Humanities and Natural Sciences was founded in 1997, The Faculty of Healthcare in 2002, and the Faculties of Management and Sports in 2004.
