Rector Volodymyr Smolanka's greeting in celebration of Europe Day
Dear colleagues!
Today, 9 May, Ukraine, together with the whole of united Europe, celebrates Europe Day. This is a holiday of peace, unity and common values, which have acquired a special, deep meaning for us, Ukrainians. In the face of full-scale aggression, when our nation is heroically fighting for its independence and European future, this day is another powerful symbol of our unbreakable spirit and civilisational choice.
Ukraine has always been an integral part of the European family - geographically, historically, culturally and mentally. Our aspirations for freedom, democracy, the rule of law and respect for human dignity are the fundamental European values that the Ukrainian people are defending today with arms in hand, protecting not only their own land but also the eastern borders of the entire free Europe.
Our university has always been and remains a centre of European thought, science and culture. We are educating a new generation of Ukrainians - educated, patriotic, with an active civic position, ready to build a strong, independent and European Ukraine. Your knowledge, your energy and your patriotism are the key to our common successful future in the big family of the EU.
May this day give all of us strength and inspiration in the struggle for a free, peaceful and prosperous Ukraine in the circle of European nations!
