Implementation of a tourism project for internally displaced orphans
Recently, the team of the Faculty of Tourism and International Communications of UzhNU became one of the winners of the project competition “Startup - UzhNU: Innovations for the Future!”, having developed a tourism project on the initiative of the Dean of the Faculty Natalia Gabchak, Head of the Department of Tourism Hanna Mashika and Associate Professor of the Department of Tourism Ruslana Kryvenkova to organize tourist trips to all districts of Zakarpattia and the necessary tourist support, which is a rather responsible and difficult task. After presenting it in the semifinals and finals of the competition in front of a jury of regional and city authorities and the leadership of UzhNU, the faculty team was awarded a Diploma for the second place, receiving a cash reward for the project in the amount of UAH 12 thousand, with which the Faculty of Tourism and MC wanted to help internally displaced orphans who so badly need our care and attention.
Halyna Shykitka, PhD in Education, Associate Professor of the Department of General Pedagogy and Higher Education of the Faculty of Social Sciences of UzhNU, who teaches the discipline “Features of Educational Work with Orphans”, helped the Faculty of Tourism and Culture to find such children. Thus, by joint efforts of the team of the Faculty of Tourism and MC consisting of Ruslana KRYVENKOVA and students majoring in Tourism: Veronika GADZHEGA, Myroslava YAKYMA, Valeria KOVALENKO, Alina PIDA, Tetiana ROMAN, Nadiia Hryhorchak, Iryna Ilyushonok, Ivanna Babei, Valeria VERHUN together with Assoc. Halyna SHYKITKA organized and conducted a tourist route Velykyi Bereznyi-Uzhhorod-Mukachevo-Rakoshyno-Uzhhorod-Velykyi Bereznyi for 35 orphans, displaced persons from Dnipro (Center for Social Support of Children and Families “Embrace” of the City Council), who now live in Velykyi Bereznyi.
During the tour, the children visited the Mukachevo Palanok Castle, where they were told about its history and shown some of its exhibits. The children also watched a 7-part short film about the construction of the castle. The students of the Faculty of Tourism and Art prepared and conducted a tour of the historic center of Mukachevo, telling the children about the history of the ancient city on the Latorytsia River. In addition, a visit to the Skala cinema was organized for the children to watch an interesting movie. With the help of sponsors, the kids had a delicious dinner at the Colosseum pizzeria and were given lots of goodies for the return trip and souvenirs.
The project also organized a trip for students majoring in Tourism and Preschool Education to visit 35 orphans at a boarding school in Velykyi Bereznyi. Teachers and students conducted an interesting and interactive program for the children.
We are grateful to the management of UzhNU and sponsors for the opportunity to implement a tourism project for internally displaced orphans. These were particularly useful, joyful, eventful, and informative trips for the children, as well as for teachers and students with many positive emotions and new acquaintances. For example, the feedback from Myroslava YAKYMA, a student majoring in Tourism: “We admire these children who, despite all the hardships and tragic incidents in their lives, smile and share their love. The hugs they gave us were the strongest and most sincere of all. No one wanted to say goodbye after the days we spent together, but we are sure that we will return to the kids again. The incredible talents they have are amazing and make us re-evaluate many things in life.”
