"EU Career Day: Uzhhorod" takes place in UzhNU
On Wednesday, 8 November, the EU Career Day: Uzhhorod", which brought together students, representatives of NGOs, business, civil servants and active young citizens. The event was co-organised by Uzhhorod National University and the European Union Information Centre in Uzhhorod.
The event started with a panel discussion "Ukraine - EU: Integration in the status of a candidate for membership", moderated by the Dean of the Faculty of History and International Relations Vitalii Andriiko.
"This is the sixth time that the EU Career Day has been held at our university. However, this time is very special, because today we expect the results of Ukraine's fulfilment of the requirements for EU membership. And we all hope that this conclusion will be positive for us and that we will be able to return to the EU. There is a painting called "The Abduction of Europe" by Rembrandt Harmens van Rijn, which was painted in the 17th century. It reminds me of the tragic process of artificially "pulling" Ukraine out of the European family, after which we were forced to stay in the "prison of nations" for centuries. Now our return has begun to be rapidly realised, but, unfortunately, the wheels of history move fast when they are thickly lubricated with blood. And this is the blood of the best sons and daughters of Ukraine," said Vice-Rector Ihor Korol.
Vice-rector Myroslava Lendiel emphasised: "If we analyse this difficult period that Ukrainians are going through, the most positive event for us in recent years is probably the decision to grant Ukraine the status of an EU candidate. This was done, firstly, to support Ukraine. It became clear that we were defending not only our right to exist, but also Europe. From a geopolitical point of view, Ukraine, if its statehood fell, would be the first brick that Russia would break on the European continent. Secondly, it was gratitude to the Ukrainian people, public and political figures, for their persistent desire to join the EU. Yes, we have had ups and downs on this path. But we have long since made up our minds. And everyone remembers that failure to follow this path was one of the reasons for the Revolution of Dignity. The Ukrainian people are constantly convincing Europeans that we want to be part of Europe. Therefore, the light for EU enlargement will be on for Ukraine."
Other speakers at the panel discussion included: Taras Trindyak, Director of the Economic and Regional Development Department of the Zakarpattia Regional State Administration; Yuriy Fushchych, Director of the Zakarpattia Regional Employment Centre; Anna Tsimbolynets, Head of the Zakarpattia Regional Development Agency, Pavlo Lohvinov, Head of the Regional Office in Zakarpattia Oblast (Regional Activity Department of the U-LEAD with Europe Programme), Tetiana Buturlakina, Director of the Career Centre of UzhNU, Institutional Coordinator of Erasmus+ (KA2) of the COOPERA project "Integration of Dual Higher Education in Moldova and Ukraine", Mariana Kramar, alumnus of EU Study Days in Ukraine, and Ihor Todorov, Professor of the Department of International Studies and Public Communications of UzhNU.
