Academic Mobility and International Cooperation of UzhNU in 2025 within the Erasmus+ Programme
In 2025, the State University “Uzhhorod National University” (UzhNU) continued the active development of international cooperation and participation in European academic mobility programmes, in particular within the Erasmus+ programme. Despite the challenges related to martial law in Ukraine, students and academic staff of UzhNU were able to take advantage of opportunities for study, training, and teaching at leading European higher education institutions with the support of European Union scholarships. Systematic work to expand and strengthen partnerships with European universities was carried out by the University’s International Relations Office.
The largest number of Erasmus+ scholarships for semester-long studies at UzhNU was implemented in cooperation with universities in Slovakia, Romania, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Germany, Spain, Italy, Poland, and other countries. Students from virtually all faculties of the university participated in academic mobility, including the Faculty of Philology, the Faculty of Economics, the Faculty of Social Sciences, and the Faculty of International Economic Relations.
In addition to the Erasmus+ programme, academic mobility of UzhNU students was also supported by other international programmes and bilateral agreements. In particular, these included the CEEPUS programme, programmes of the Government of Lithuania, intergovernmental agreements between Ukraine and the Slovak Republic, as well as a double degree programme with the University of L’Aquila (Italy). Such formats of cooperation enabled students to undertake semester-long studies abroad and obtain education simultaneously at two universities.
An important area of UzhNU’s international activity in 2025 was the implementation of Erasmus+ youth exchanges in cooperation with the Polish organization INPRO. More than forty students from various fields of study took part in thematic projects focused on leadership, intercultural dialogue, photography, artificial intelligence, community engagement, and youth work. These initiatives contributed to the development of soft skills, intercultural communication, and active exchange of experience with young people from European countries.
In 2025, academic and teaching mobility was also actively implemented. UzhNU lecturers undertook training placements at universities in Slovakia, Romania, Portugal, Croatia, Germany, Hungary, and Lithuania. At the same time, the university hosted foreign lecturers and students under the Erasmus+ programme. In particular, representatives of universities from Romania, Sweden, and Lithuania delivered lectures and completed training at UzhNU, while foreign students studied at UzhNU within the framework of semester-long academic mobility.
Overall, in 2025 students and lecturers of Uzhhorod National University completed 131 mobilities under the Erasmus+ programme, which demonstrates the university’s stable integration into the European Higher Education Area and a high level of international academic cooperation.
Uzhhorod National University continues to regard participation in international mobility programmes as a strategic priority that contributes to improving the quality of education, developing scientific potential, and expanding opportunities for students and academic staff.
