A webinar "International Academic Mobility of Students" was held for students of Uzhhorod National University

On Wednesday, 5 April, a webinar "International Academic Mobility of Students" was held for students of Uzhhorod National University. Vice-Rector Prof. Myroslava Lendel and Head of the International Relations Department Oksana Svezhentseva spoke about the various international opportunities that are open to UzhNU students. In particular, students learned where to find relevant information on internships/studies abroad, who can participate in academic mobility, how to win a grant for study, how to write a motivation letter, the role of English language proficiency in the implementation of studies at a foreign university, and much more.

Professor Myroslava Lendel opened the event: "Student life consists of many components. Firstly, you get an education, secondly, you get your first scientific experience, and thirdly, you apply practical skills - many of you find a job during your studies. Of course, you also want to relax and make new friends. So the question arises: how do you combine all of this in the best possible way? Our answer is international academic student mobility. Thanks to the opportunities provided by UzhNU, you can plunge into student life in a foreign university for several months, where you will get all of the above. In old age, people usually remember the love they have experienced or exciting travels. And if they haven't travelled much, they regret the time they've wasted. So, to make sure you have something to remember in your old age, we want to tell you today about all the types of international mobility that are available to our students. Believe me, this is the best combination of education, science, exploring new countries and great experiences."

Oksana Svezhentseva, Head of the International Relations Department, outlined in detail all the available opportunities for academic mobility of UzhNU students: "First of all, I would like to thank the students who have registered for our event. I am glad that you want to move forward, that you are interested in improving, travelling, learning something new. This will have a very positive impact on your professional development in the future and will add to your positive attitude, growth and the best memories of university life. Today we are going to talk to you about everything related to international mobility. We will analyse all types of mobility and answer all your questions. After all, we want to inspire and tune in to the power of thought that will continue to drive you so that you can take advantage of all the opportunities that lie ahead."

There are many types of academic mobility available for UzhNU students, which can be attended by bachelor's, master's and PhD students. The opportunities include: semester (short-term) studies (Erasmus+), studying under joint educational programmes abroad, participation in foreign student conferences, seminars, trainings, internships (including language), participation in winter/summer schools, short-term internships, training, research work in foreign research institutes and participation in international research projects, grants, competitions.

Academic mobility programmes include: university agreements on semester studies/double degrees, intergovernmental scholarship funds, Erasmus+, scholarships for studying at Bavarian universities, Fulbright programmes, Chevening scholarships, and British Council programmes. As for free semester studies and double degree programmes on the basis of university agreements, students of various specialities of UzhNU have the opportunity to study for free: at the Pomeranian Academy in Słupsk (Poland), at the University of Hradec Králov (Czech Republic), at the University of Darmstadt (Germany), at the Higher School of Liège (Belgium). As well as at universities under the double degree programme: University of L'Aquila (Italy), Alexander Dubcek University of Trencin in Trencin (Slovak Republic), Pomeranian Academy in Słupsk (Poland). Funding for student mobility is also possible through grants, scholarships, host or sending parties, and at the student's own expense. Employees of the International Relations Department constantly monitor and share available grants and scholarships on their page, which may be useful for UzhNU students.

The webinar was also joined by UzhNU students who are currently gaining experience of academic mobility at universities in the Czech Republic, Poland, Romania and Slovakia. To do this, the students sent short videos sharing their impressions. One of them is Maryna Slyvka, a master's student of the Faculty of Foreign Philology, who is currently studying at the Pomeranian Academy in Słupsk, Poland: "This is the second time I have been lucky enough to participate in the semester study programme at the Pomeranian Academy. I am studying at the Faculty of German Philology and all subjects are taught in German.Polish is also compulsory, which is relatively easy for Ukrainians to learn. A big advantage is that students can create their own study plan and choose the subjects they like (except for the compulsory ones). I live in a town with everything I need. During this time, I have already visited neighbouring towns and visited the sea twice."
