A medical career starts here: specialties, employment, and new medical faculty admissions
Ensuring quality medical education is one of the fundamental factors in the development of society, as qualified doctors are the key to saving lives, preventing diseases and maintaining the well-being of the nation. At Uzhhorod National University, this honourable mission is carried out by the Faculty of Medicine, which is one of the leading centres of relevant higher education in the region.
The scientific and pedagogical potential of the faculty includes more than 40 Doctors of Medicine and more than a hundred PhDs who share their experience and knowledge with future doctors every day.
The Faculty of Medicine plays a key role not only in the educational life of UzhNU, but also in the development of the entire healthcare system of Zakarpattia.

Acting Dean Oleh Devinyak spoke about the training of highly qualified specialists.
- What specialities are represented at your faculty?
- The School of Medicine invites applicants to study in the field of healthcare in the following specialities: I2 ‘Medicine’, I8 ‘Pharmacy’ and І5 ‘Nursing’. Within the latter, we offer two multidisciplinary study programmes - Nursing (3 years and 10 months) and Emergency Medicine/Paramedic (2 years and 10 months).
- Why are the aforementioned specialities relevant in 2025?
- These specialities are always relevant and needed, because no matter what the scientific and technological progress is, people will always need medical care. Medicine is the industry where artificial intelligence, no matter what its achievements, will always play a supporting role. In a world where the possibilities of overcoming diseases and prolonging life are constantly growing, the need for highly qualified specialists will only increase.
- Please tell us about the novelties of this year's admission campaign at your faculty.
- Medical education requires a high level of training and, therefore, knowledge. Our faculty also adheres to these principles, which motivates the high conditions for admission to the Medicine and Pharmacy programmes. An applicant's competitive score must be at least 150 points. I should note that nursing programmes do not have such a restriction, but they have a fixed number of applicants, which also creates high competition among applicants. However, in general, all those who pass the 150-point mark get the opportunity to study at state expense - this is one of our advantages.
The novelty of this year's admission campaign is the possibility of admission on the basis of already obtained higher education diplomas in the field of healthcare. Another innovation is the allocation of state-funded places for our new and popular Emergency Medicine/Paramedic programme. However, even more important is the result of our many months of work to monitor, analyse and update the curriculum. It seems that we are the only one in Ukraine who has fully worked out the new recommendations of the CPME Standing Committee of European Physicians from 2024 and fully implemented them in the new version of our programme.
Thus, the content of the curricula of the students of the Facultyof Medicine of UzhNU meets the modern standards of medical training in Europe.

- What employment opportunities are available for graduates?
- ‘Will there be a job for a graduate of the Faculty of Medicine?’ - Everyone can answer this question when they pay attention to the billboards on the streets of our cities. More than half of them advertise medical institutions and centres. Approximately the same share of television and media content is dedicated to the promotion of medicines. Thus, medicine and pharmacy is a field where the turnover of significant funds is combined with work on advanced technological equipment and dedicated service to the noble goals of humanity and help.
The medical profession remains relevant and in demand in all spheres of life. There is always work for our graduates - both in hospitals, medical centres, pharmacies and other healthcare institutions, and in the medical and pharmaceutical industry: in research, development and production of medicines and medical devices, their market promotion and quality control.
