UzhNU Honored the Winners of the Final Round of the All-Ukrainian Biology Olympiad
From March 20 to 24, 2026, the final round of the All-Ukrainian Student Biology Olympiad was held in Uzhhorod. The final of this intellectual competition brought together over 150 students from across the country. Students from 24 regions of Ukraine and the city of Kyiv competed for the title of top biology experts.

The Olympiad was organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Co-organizers: the Department of Education and Science, Youth, and Sports of the Zakarpattia Regional State (Military) Administration, and Uzhhorod National University.
Yaroslava Hasynyts, dean of the Faculty of Biology at UzhNU, says: “This year, Uzhhorod is hosting the Olympiad finals for the first time in many years. The last time such an event took place here was in 1986, and in 2003, the final stage was held in Zakarpattia, in Mukachevo.
The Olympiad program consisted of theoretical and experimental rounds. The theoretical round, which took place at the Uzhhorod Scientific Lyceum of the Zakarpattia Regional Council, involved solving test questions of three levels of difficulty.
The experimental round took place at the Faculty of Biology of UzhNU and included practical tasks in various biological disciplines, including botany, zoology, paleontology, microbiology, animal physiology, and others.”
On Tuesday, March 24, the Uzhhorod National University hosted the closing ceremony of the third stage of the All-Ukrainian Student Olympiad in Biology. The participants and teachers were greeted by UzhNU Rector Volodymyr Smolanka, Director of the Department of Education, Science, Youth, and Sports of the Uzhhorod Regional State Administration Mariana Marusynets, President of the Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Stanislav Dovhyi, and Dean of the Faculty of Biology Yaroslava Hasynets.

In his speech, the Rector of UzhNU noted: “Today we are concluding the third stage of the All-Ukrainian Student Olympiad in Biology. But in reality, each of you is already a winner. You have passed the preliminary stages, and this is the best confirmation of your knowledge, perseverance, and interest in science. You are strong, intelligent, and motivated young people who represent the future. I sincerely congratulate you and wish you not to stop at what you have achieved.”
Zakarpattia was represented in the finals by seven students—winners of the preliminary rounds. They were prepared for the competition by teachers Vladyslav Polovka and Olesia Shusta. The Olympiad winners were awarded first-, second-, and third-place diplomas, as well as prizes for the best results in the practical rounds. Based on the results of the competition, the Zakarpattia region took third place, which was won by Yaroslava Nogach, a 10th-grade student at the I. Mahula Multidisciplinary Lyceum No. 1 in Khust.
At the end, the participants were presented with awards.
