11 universities are joining forces to bring together scientists and students from all V4 countries and Ukraine to conduct joint research, exchange knowledge, engage different generations in the development and implementation of innovative ideas to promote in-depth cooperation in the economic and political spheres, thus support Ukrainian society in the process European integration.

Relevance and context:

The opening of the Ukraine’s accession negotiations opened new horizons for strengthening cooperation between the V4 countries and Ukraine. With the prospect of Ukraine's membership, the EU’s gravity is shifting to the east, and the V4 countries can play a vital role in European integration. Thus, promoting mutual understanding by creating a strong interdisciplinary cluster of experts in the research field on economic and political cooperation between the V4 countries and Ukraine becomes very timely. By bringing together not only academics, but also PhD students and master’s students who are particularly interested in this area of research, the cluster can promote international interaction and intergenerational dialogue and cooperation on topics of common interest.

The project is aimed at the development of joint research and academic exchange with the further cooperation regarding:

  • study of potential scenarios for the medium-term and long-term development of cooperation in the economic and political spheres between the V4 countries and Ukraine, taking into account the possible consequences of the current security situation, especially in the sphere of trade and investment;
  • supporting Ukraine’s efforts to join the EU, studying the effects and potential of international migration, cooperation in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine, sustainability – cooperation on the goals of sustainable development, real opportunities for cross-border cooperation between Ukraine and the V4 under military operations, an inclusive border between Ukraine and V4 partners.

Contribution of the project:

The creation of an interdisciplinary cluster (economics and political science) of scientists and students from all V4 countries and Ukraine provides a unique opportunity to comprehensively identify and resolve issues of common and competing interests, taking into account their economic and political aspects.

A joint approach of scientists from the V4 countries and Ukraine, accompanied by an academic exchange of both scientists and students, would cause a synergistic effect.

Engaging students from all participating universities through workshops and essay writing competitions will open the door to new meaningful partnerships for a new generation of future decision makers.

Work on project topics in the context of common academic interests and exchange of views on the potential development of future mutual cooperation will form their comprehensive perception and improve understanding of the dynamics of V4-Ukraine relations for the coming years.

The opening of the project activities to the general public (especially students who do not directly participate in the project) and the dissemination of the results of joint work on the project website and in social networks, aims to raise awareness and contribute to curbing existing stereotypes about the discussed topics, in the general public.
