INCLUSIVECEE: CHALLENGES AND UKRAINE REFUGEE INTEGRATION (22330013)

Project duration:20.01.2024 – 30.06.2025

Project Overview:

The project aims to address the challenges faced by Ukrainian refugees in the middle cities of the Central and Eastern European region, with a focus on social cohesion, integration and discrimination.

Final goal of the project:

Promote inclusion, strengthen social cohesion, combat hate speech and discrimination, and create a more welcoming environment for Ukrainian refugees throughout Central and Eastern Europe.

Relevance and Context:

Ukrainian refugees in Visegrad Group countries face challenges social cohesion, integration, hatred and discrimination, with limited access to public services a significant problem. The mission of our project is clear: to promote inclusivity, empower minorities and fight discrimination and hate speech. Our goal is to develop a more just and inclusive society, embracing diversity and protecting the rights of minorities, with the ultimate goal of fostering a stronger and more harmonious community. Rather than focusing on capitals, our project explores the growing secondary cities in a region where refugee reception is significant. These cities share a common historical migration experience, similar civil society problems and dynamic migration patterns due to the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war.

An important aspect of the initiative of the project participants is close cooperation with Uzhhorod National University, especially focused on the experience of refugees and displaced persons in Ukraine itself, in particular in the city of Uzhhorod. This extends our research to internal displacement, revealing the experience of those resettled within Ukraine's borders. Our key interests include understanding the problems of Ukrainian refugees in accessing public services, experiences of social isolation, potential tension with host communities and the impact of hate speech and discrimination on their lives. The aim of our project is to promote inclusion, enhance social cohesion and combat hatred and discrimination, ultimately creating a friendlier environment for all.
