International Scientific Conference «Dynamics of language awareness among Ukrainian citizens in the context of war and migration»
The conference is held as part of the project «Dynamics of language awareness among Ukrainian citizens in the context of war and migration» with financial support of the Center for Governance and Culture in Europe (GCE-HSG) University of St. Gallen (Switzerland).
Project Partners: Institute of Ukrainian language, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and Ismail State University of Humanities.
We kindly invite you to participate in the International Scientific Conference «Dynamics of language awareness among Ukrainian citizens in the context of war and migration», which will be held on June 10-12, 2026, in Uzhhorod.
Event venue: Academic Hall of Uzhhorod National University (Rectorate, Narodna sq., 3, Uzhhorod)
The purpose of the conference: dissemination of research results on the dynamics of language awarenessamong Ukrainian citizens in conditions of war and migration, developed thanks to an international project implemented by the Research Center for the Sociology of Language (UzhNU) in partnership with the Department of Stylistics, Language Culture and Sociolinguistics (Institute of Ukrainian language, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine) and the Department of Ukrainian Language and Literature (Ismail State University of Humanities) with financial support of the Center for Governance and Culture in Europe (GCE-HSG) University of St. Gallen (Switzerland) from April 2025 till December 2026.
Scientific issues of the conference:
1. Transformation of linguistic identity in war conditions
2. Linguistic behavior as a marker of ethnocultural identity in border and multiethnic regions
3. Linguistic adaptation and cultural integration of internally displaced persons
4. Dynamics of the linguistic landscape as a reflection of socio-political changes
5. Language as a tool of social cohesion and differentiation in crisis times
6. Methodology for researching linguistic processes in wartime
The working languages of the conference are Ukrainian and English.
Format: mixed (in-person and with the use of distance communication technologies – on the Google Meet platform).
Participation in the conference is free, travel and accommodation are at the expense of participants.

It is planned to publish a collective monograph based on the conference materials (after the event).
