Scientists of UzhNU and Vasile Goldis Western University of Arad (Romania) discussed cooperation projects in various fields

On Monday, February 26, 2018, a meeting of the UzhNU authorities, the deans of the faculties of UzhNU and the delegation of Vasile Goldis Western University of Arad (Romania), headed by its Rector Koralia Adina Kotorachi, took place in the administrative building of UzhNU. The aim of the meeting was to discuss cooperation projects.

 Opening the meeting, the Rector of UzhNU Volodymyr Smolanka emphasized on the importance of cooperation for the development of grant projects which would bring benefit to both universities and make a significant contribution to cross-border scientific, economic and social cooperation. The Rector of Vasile Goldis Western University of Arad, Professor Koralia Adina Kotoraci, said: "We came to you with a lot of projects and proposals we can successfully implement together.”

Project proposals of both universities were presented and discussed during the meeting. In particular, the representatives of UzhNU submitted a number of proposals in the field of biology, medicine, law, international relations, social sciences and economics for consideration.

In particular, Roman Kish, a senior researcher of the Biological Faculty, presented the perspective directions of cooperation in the sphere of medical and biological research, conservation of biodiversity in the border regions of Ukraine and Romania.

 Proposals in the field of medicine concerned the development of joint projects in neurosurgery and neurology. Andriy Smolanka, an assistant of the Department of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry of UzhNU, told about the projects which would concern the Transcarpathian Regional Center for Neurosurgery and Neurology and the clinical base at the University of Arad, as well as the project on the implementation of telemedicine in Transcarpathia and the Arad region.

The lawyers of Uzhhorod presented a project addressing theoretical and applied issues of counteraction to trans-border organized crime with the help of criminal law and criminological means.

Hanna Melehanych, a representative of the Faculty of History and International Relations, a Candidate of Political Sciences, told about the proposal of conducting the research of cross-border cooperation between Ukraine and Romania in the conditions of a visa-free travel. "The goal of the proposed research is to analyze the impact of the border factor on the political, social and economic development of the border areas," said Hanna Melehanych. Within the framework of the proposal, it is planned to study the existing cross-border cooperation from the time when visa-free travels were introduced and to develop recommendations for local self-government authorities on how to improve the cooperation.

 Representatives of the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of International Economic Relations also presented their proposals for cooperation. After the general meeting, the work continued in several groups.
