Another floor of the student hostel of UzhNU was renovated
Today, on August 19, 2016 the opening ceremony of completely renovated and equipped with modern appliances fifth floor of student hostel №4 of UzhNU took place. The official presentation of the object was attended by the Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Volodymyr Kovtunets, the Hungarian government commissioner in Transcarpathia Istvan Hrezha, Consul General of Hungary in Uzhhorod Jozsef Buhaylo, the head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Hennadiy Moskal, an MP of Ukraine Vasyl Brenzovych and the Deputy Chair of the Regional Council Petro Hrytsyk.
At the opening ceremony, the Rector of UzhNU Volodymyr Smolanka said that improving the quality of student life and the creation of appropriate conditions for learning and active and meaningful leisure was one of the priorities of the managers of Uzhhorod National University. "Now, when we have managed to renovate two floors of the student hostel, our task is to create the same conditions for all students of the university", - said Mr.Smolanka. He thanked the Hungarian partners for their regular support of the leading Transcarpathian university and expressed the hope that adequate living conditions would be good motivation for students to study effectively.
Istvan Hrezha said in his speech that the Hungarian government’s help in modernization of UzhNU facilities was not only a symbol of Ukrainian-Hungarian friendship, but also the support of Ukraine's aspirations to move towards united Europe and assured the representative of the Ukrainian government Viktor Kovtunets that Hungary would remain a reliable ally of Ukraine in realization of its aspirations.
The Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Volodymyr Kovtunets stressed that the current event was a special one, because very few Ukrainian universities had the opportunity to improve the life of their students to such an extent and thanked the representatives of the Hungarian government and the Rector of UzhNU for the implementation of such project. "Ukrainian-Hungarian cooperation in the field of education is effective not only regionally, but also nationally. Thanks to active support of the "Visegrad Four" we are starting a large-scale reform of financing higher education",- said Viktor Kovtunets.
The Chair of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Hennadiy Moskal said that the event was taking place on the eve of the National Hungarian Holiday - St. Stephen's Day and on this occasion presented Istvan Hrezha with a piece of Ukrainian embroidery and thanked the representative of the neighboring country for their help.
After the ribbon cutting ceremony, the participants of the event and media representatives were able to see the renovated premises of the hostel and witness the scale and the quality of the work performed. "Everything was changed: new flooring was installed, the walls were puttied up and painted and the hygiene equipment was replaced. All these works required considerable efforts. Bedrooms, bathrooms, hallway and kitchen were refurbished according to the European standards. The lobby of the hostel was also fully renovated. The gateway was equipped with all necessary security tools, which would allow students to feel protected from penetration of outsiders", - says the Vice-Rector for Administrative Policy of UzhNU Dmytro Soyma.
The overhaul of the fifth floor of the hostel lasted for two months and was fully funded by the Government of Hungary. The renovated rooms are for 140 best students of the faculties of Law, History, Mathematics and the Faculty of International Policy, Management and Business.
