Project title: CLAIMS CONFERENCE UNIVERSITY PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM IN HOLOCAUST STUDIES
With the assistance of the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany (Claims Conference) and the support of the German Federal Ministry of Finance, Uzhhorod National University is introducing three courses on the history of the Holocaust into its bachelor's and master's degree programs, with an emphasis on European, national, and regional contexts.
The courses are open to students from all university departments. The subjects include an introduction to the study of the Holocaust and courses in which students will learn about the life of the Jewish community in Europe and Ukraine, coexistence and discrimination before World War II, as well as the history of the Holocaust and its consequences.
Project aim: to introduce courses designed to familiarize students with the history of the Holocaust in a broad European, Ukrainian, and local context. The courses combine chronological and thematic approaches, addressing key issues ranging from the origins of antisemitism to questions of collaboration, resistance, rescue, and memory.
Students will gain an understanding of the primary historical sources, research approaches, and contemporary debates. The project also includes the preparation and organization of events for the wider public (lectures, public dialogues, seminars).
Project duration: September 1, 2025 – June 30, 2026
