Uzhhorod National University celebrated its 73rd anniversary with the slogan "Let's grow together!"

Uzhhorod National University celebrated its 73rd anniversary with the slogan "Let's grow together!"

The solemn event on the occasion of the 73rd anniversary of UzhNU held in the largest conference hall of the most powerful higher educational institution in Transcarpathia was attended by the representatives of UzhNU and their colleagues from domestic and foreign universities (from the United States of America, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Czech Republic), the representatives of the municipal and regional authorities and business entities. The event was held under the slogan "Let's grow together!"

The solemn meetings began with the National Anthem of Ukraine, a brief journey into the history of the university, including references to the fateful resolution "On the foundation of a state university in Uzhhorod" as of October 18, 1945 and the welcome speech of the Rector of UzhNU, Professor Volodymyr Smolanka.

"When we celebrate birthdays we usually evaluate the year which has passed, but it is also desirable to look into the future. Who would have thought five years ago, that UzhNU would be among the best universities of Ukraine, and at the peak of the energy crisis would not stop the training process; that in the most difficult years, when the number of schools leavers in the Transcarpathian region was very low, UzhNU would be in top fefteen universities by the number of enrolled students. I am glad that all this has become a reality. Moreover, UzhNU has recently joined the Great Charter of European Universities. Therefore, we are growing together!"

People's Deputy of Ukraine, Robert Horvat, thanked for a long-term cooperation and expressed confidence that it would continue. Mr. Horvat also presented the Honorary Diploma of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to the Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of UzhNU Serhiy Fedaka.

The head of the Transcarpathian Regional Council Mykhaylo Rivis and the deputy of Uzhhorod city mayor Oleksandr Bilak promised to develop joint projects in the future (for example, establishing cooperation between the Department of Bohemian Studies of UzhNU and the Vysocina Region (Czech Republic), the Summer University and internships for students). The officials also awarded the employees of our higher educational institution with honourary diplomas. Mr. Bilak officially invited UzhNU to participate in the exhibition of European universities (January 2019) in the German city of Darmstadt.

Vasyl Yablonskyy, the first deputy director of the National Institute for Strategic Studies, drew attention to the fact that over 1,000 out of 14,000 students of UzhNU were foreigners from 36 countries.

A member of the Rector’s Collegium of Charles University in Prague, Jan Blahoslav Lasek, dwelt upon active cooperation with the Law Faculty of UzhNU and the exchange of medical representatives, which would take place in the near future. The Professor also mentioned that Charles University presented the library of Uzhhorod National University with professional literature.

After numerous greetings from the guests of the meeting, a number of Uzhhorod University employees were presented with honoraury diplomas for their achievements and contribution into the development of the university. At the end of the ceremony, the audience watched a video created on the occasion of the 73rd anniversary of UzhNU by the Media Center of the university.
