Scientific-Research Institute of Phytotherapy
The Research Institute of Phytotherapy and Non-Traditional Treatment Methods named after Professor Oksana Hanych (hereinafter – the Institute) of Uzhhorod National University is the legal successor of the Research Institute of Phytotherapy of Uzhhorod State University. The original institute was established in 1992 under Rector’s Order No. 172-02 dated May 20, 1992, and was based at the Department of Propaedeutics of Internal Medicine of the university’s Faculty of Medicine.

Since December 2024, pursuant to Rector’s Order No. 321/06-03 dated May 16, 2024, the position of Director of the Institute has been held by Professor Yelyzaveta Sirchak, Doctor of Medical Sciences and Head of the Department of Propaedeutics of Internal Medicine at Uzhhorod National University.

Key areas of research and activity:
- Investigating the impact of stress on the human body under wartime conditions in Ukraine and implementing non-traditional treatment methods for stress correction.
- Rehabilitation and wellness programs for patients with various pathologies, including those affected by harmful environmental factors such as low-dose ionizing radiation.
- Development of phytotherapeutic and non-traditional treatment approaches for the prevention and treatment of internal organ diseases caused by environmental exposures.
- Studying the effects of herbal remedies and alternative therapies on the immune system, vitamin and hormone levels, and other markers of homeostasis.
- Formulation of new phytoproducts and non-traditional treatments that positively influence human homeostasis.
- Cultivation of ecologically pure medicinal plant raw materials and implementation of advanced growing technologies; small-scale production of developed phytoproducts.
- Testing and evaluation of phytotherapeutic products developed by other institutions or private companies.
- Exploring new physical properties of human biological fluids and tissues, as well as developing innovative diagnostic methods for internal diseases and pathological conditions.
- Digital processing of multidimensional medical images.
- Creation of computer-based expert diagnostic systems and tools to optimize phytotherapy practices.
- Extraction of biologically active substances from plant and microbial sources with antimicrobial, prebiotic, antioxidant, and immunomodulatory effects.
- Integration of contemporary scientific achievements into education and applied industrial sectors.
