UzhNU signed cooperation agreement with Beijing Genomics Institute

Educational and scientific cooperation agreement between UzhNU and the Beijing Genomics Institute (BGI), one of the world's leaders in genomics, was signed at the International Forum “Innovation Market” held in the capital of Ukraine last month.

The Beijing Genomics Institute numbers about 4,000 scientists, functions in more than 100 countries and collaborates with about 3000 medical institutions and 300 hospitals. At the International Forum, the Institute introduced new technologies including the Genome Sequencer of their own design and DNA reading machines - BGISEQ50 and BGISEQ500.

This cooperation envisages effective exchange of students, teachers and technologies, educational and scientific cooperation between the institutions and promoting UzhNU to the position of the leader of genetic and genomic research in Ukraine in the future.

 The Rector of UzhNU, Professor Volodymyr Smolanka, and BGI Representative, the General Director of the European office of the Beijing Genomics Institute, Ryan Liu, discussed further stages of cooperation, including the journey of Ukrainian delegation to Shenzhen, to the headquarters of the BGI, familiarization with all possible directions of cooperation and joint steps towards the implementation of scientific projects and the work on the introduction of new courses and specialisms at UzhNU.

 They also discussed the possibility of involving regional, Ukrainian and European academic and scientific partners of UzhNU to creating a powerful educational and scientific alliance in cooperation with the Beijing Genomics Institute.
