New "Horizon 2020" outlook: Hungarians and Spaniards are interested in partnership with the scientists of UzhNU
On Wednesday, 24 May 2017, the Rector of UzhNU Volodymyr Smolanka, Vice–Rector for Research Ihor Studenyak and Vice-Rector for Academic Policy and Research Myroslava Lendel had a working meeting with the Ministerial Commissioner and the Managing Director of the Hungarian Development Center Antal Kiss. They talked about the new opportunities for participation in international research projects, cooperation of Uzhhorod National University with the universities of Hungary and the EU within the program "Horizon 2020". This European program provides funding for research activities and innovative developments with their subsequent introduction in the market, its total budget is around 70 billion EURO.
Mr. Kiss came to Uzhhorod together with his colleagues from Spain, who are among the most successful professionals in the preparation and writing of scientific projects to attract the funds provided by the European institutions. UzhNU was visited by the representatives of «Inspiralia» company, which employs hundreds of workers and has thousands of contacts in the academic institutions of the EU. According to Mr. Antal Kiss, Spanish experts consider the researchers of UzhNU as their potential partners for future joint research projects. They are interested in the Transcarpathian scientists’ capacity and the research base of the university, and our researchers’ experience of participation in international projects.
Volodymyr Smolanka informed that Uzhhorod National University was actively involved in the European research program «HORIZON 2020". At present, UzhNU is implementing two powerful scientific programs related to the project. One of them relates to research in physics, the other one is implemented in the field of biochemistry and food technology.
Antal Kiss said that when they opened the Hungarian Development Center in December 2014, whose task was to monitor project opportunities and attract the European funds to Hungary, very few people in the neighboring country believed in the success of the project. However, the Center managed to attract 60-80 times more European money than the amount allocated by the Government of Hungary.
- We are ready to share our experience with you. Moreover, a European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation "TYSA" will be presented in Uzhhorod on Saturday. It will be engaged in involving technical and financial assistance of the EU for the implementation of a number of reforms in the Transcarpathian region, including the ones in the area of education. The agreement between EGTC “TYSA” and the Hungarian Development Center will be signed. This will open up new opportunities for international cooperation of the university.
After the meeting with the management of UzhNU Ihor Studenyak accompanied Antal Kiss and Spanish experts George Sontelo and Domingo Sanchez to the Faculty of Dentistry, where they participated in a seminar for higher educational institutions "Horizon 2020: funding opportunities."
