"Independence Day is a holiday of the whole country and all of us" - Oleksandr Varshava, the chair of the Student Council of UzhNU
On the eve of an important national holiday - the Independence Day of Ukraine, I talked to some students of Uzhhorod National University who told about the celebration and personal significance of the holiday.
Oleksandr Varshava, the chair of the Student Council of Uzhhorod National University, a student of the Faculty of History: "For me it is a holiday that is equal to my own birthday. Ukraine is a country where I was born and raised, and I would like to see it thriving. Independence Day is the celebration of the victory of the state and its people, who deserve to live in their own independent country. I am convinced that Ukraine stands next to the countries of Europe and the world and has the right to enjoy the benefits provided by its independence. I am proud that I am a UKRAINIAN and I don’t want Ukraine to lose its sovereignty".
Roksolana Blazhivska, a student of the Faculty of Mathematics: "25 years ago our parents and grandparents, who wanted a better life for them and their families, united to fight for their dignity, their independence. This is a great holiday for us all, because on this day we were able to unite as one big family! At present, the fighting still continues and our task is not to lose hope and faith in better life. The country is made of everyone of us, so we all should take care of it. I wish joy and inspiration to everybody!"
Rostyslav Holovchanskyy, a student of the Faculty of Postgraduate Education: "For me, the Independence Day symbolizes the success of the centuries-long struggle of the Ukrainian nation. Any business people put efforts into brings results, perhaps, in a year or ten years and in our case in many centuries. Our result is a sovereign Ukraine. This year, there will be a lot of events in our city, and I am planning to visit most of them".
Independence Day is a symbol of invincible spirit, patriotism and unity of the Ukrainian people. Our Motherland is very young and needs a lot of effort and time to flourish in all its glory and we will succeed owing to conscious Ukrainians who do not forget how the history of their country was made. Ukraine begins with each of us.
Happy Birthday, Motherland!
