Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic in Uzhhorod and the head of the Transcarpathian Society of Czech Culture visited UzhNU

On November 20th the Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic in Uzhhorod Otto Kovchar paid a visit to the Faculty of Social Sciences of UzhNU. During the meeting Mr.Kovchar told students about his career development as a diplomat which occurred in Soviet times. He mentioned that his first visit abroad was to the German Democratic Republic which was a satellite country of the USSR at that time. It happened when he was a student.

Mr. Kovchar acquainted students with the specific character of the diplomatic service including strict requirements to the formation of the diplomatic corps. He also dwelt on the current problems of the diplomatic missions of Ukraine whose objectives are the defense of Ukraine’s national interests in foreign policy vectors and at the international level.

As the head of the Transcarpathian Chamber of Commerce Otto Kovchar separately described the regional dimension of cooperation with other states. He mentioned successful steps of forming the industrial potential of the region, particularly "Eurocar" automobile plant.

Another point discussed at the meeting was the prospect of cooperation with the Czech Republic and the role of young people in establishing mutually beneficial relations between Ukraine and other states.

 Students of political science proved to be interested in the issues discussed at the meeting. The guest was asked some interesting and vital questions he gave clear diplomatic answers to.

The issue of establishing cooperation between Czech universities and Uzhhorod National University was outlined by the head of the Transcarpathian Society of Czech Culture Tetyana Serhiyenko. Giving the example of Charles University in Prague, she determined a number of promising areas which would unite mentally close but separated by Schengen student communities. An important role in the establishment of international cooperation has to be played by the Scientific Student Association of the Faculty.

Students of the Faculty of Social Sciences were pleased with the interesting meeting focusing on the prospects of international cooperation.
